Re: Get AMD drivers on Mint 18 [ONLY FOR R7, R9, OR RX CARDS]

I use r9 280x , not on the OP's list. I havent DL mint 18.x yet. But If no one else uses r9 280x I can use an extra drive and try it out. I would assume the entire r9 series would be covered but I can install 18.x any for conformation if need be.

XFCE: Has anyone ever stripped it down further.

I have a netbook I use for table top gaming pdfs. XFCE is much faster than the win7 starter that came with it. The boot time is still a bit sluggish with the 5200 rpm drive. I have an old 60 gig ssd I want to jab into it. But as being still a linux noob, I was wondering if there were some resources ...

Re: onboard lan.

I have not done 4 or 5 level updates. I knew i had a device issue when I still used win7. I was absolutely shocked when the device activated and began working. I did finally turn the heat on and the device magically began to not work again. I knew the device was bad but I did not think it was a temp...

Re: What is old oldest computer you saved with Linux?

I have a gateway lt21 netbook I purchased years ago specifically for table top gaming pdfs. Its an Atom single core 1.6 gig with 1 gig ram and 5200 rpm drive. win7 stater was well into being a snail. 17.3 xfce 32bit woke the beast right up. It can now load images smoothly and play video smoothly. I ...

Re: Linux Mint Arch Edition?

I think I get what you guys are trying to say. However as a 1 year mint user I can tell you, mint is accomplishing what they set out to do. Making the best user friendly linux distro. As it stands it works flawlessly. If mint stepped into a rolling release, stability would be gone. A rolling release...

https://www.theinternetpatrol.com/federal-court-holds-no-expectation-of-privacy-on-personal-computer/ Your concerns, from OP's first paragraph, are well deserved. A federal court has ruled there is no reasonable expectation of privacy of a computer connected to the internet. So according to the law...

(solved)onboard lan.

I do not know what happened but my wired connection magically started working today. I have been using usb wireless for about a year now. My onboard went out with win7 installed back then, it even did not work under linux back then either. I really do not read the updates when I update, so I am gues...

Re: What is Linux to you?

Sorry to cause a scare. It took several proof reads to show how other corporations are on the bandwagon and not be political. I wanted to show that it was not just microsoft, but all large entities who make software. My personal belief is that the more these corporations take away choice, the more s...

Re: What is Linux to you?

Once you start to study history, you will see how much America as a whole has changed. This change has influenced the world. We used to have many choices, now there are few. We used to be able to support a family off of 1 income. Now you can have 2 incomes in a working poor household. The latest in ...

Pantheon:rise of the fallen.

As a former EQ1 addict, I am excited about this game. I was wondering if someone here was in the beta or on the forums. Brad needs beaten with the linux stick to make sure the game launches with linux/vulkan support. The game is running the unity engine. So the only way it wont is if they decide to ...

Re: Is the Ununtu phone dead?

Thats a shame. I dont want a smart phone. But dumb phones are becoming obsolete. They are such poor quality now adays. I mean I know im one of the few who uses a "phone"( i use that word loosely), as a phone. But at $30 a month its cheaper than a land line. I dont think im being tech regressive. I j...

Howdy everyone.

Ive been a mint user for over a year now. I wanted to join the forum finally and hopefully get to know some folks. I can honestly say in the last year I have had absolutely ZERO issues with mint. On 3 machines. Mint has been very windows-like that the transition was easy. It was so easy I have never...

Im going to say I cant live with out directx. However I switched to linux and stopping digital gaming a year ago. Vulkan may change all that, but if it doesnt I think my gaming addiction is over anyways. Yes I seriously believe digital gaming has addictive properties. Dont take that as a soap box. I...

Re: Appears MS is slowing dropping the bomb

It seems microsoft has taken a page from the linux crowd. Instead of MS spending time and money debugging, they release the software and rely on community feedback to find the bugs. This style of "beta testing" works for the open source community because everyone gets to benefit. This style will als...

Is the Ubuntu phone dead?

I have been searching for a few days now. Only finding out of stock on the models supported. I have never used a tablet device or smart phone. However, the dumb phone construction quality is getting very poor. So if I have to get a smart phone and learn a new OS, why not the Unbuntu phone. I read ve...
