Re: "1.5 trillion times faster" quantum computer

So we can hope to get a stupid answer to a stupid question (nicely wrapped in an algorithm) in a very short time...

Re: Dyslexia and computers

I've been turning off the TV for a few years. Horror films from Hollywood, broadcast penetratingly on Swiss television, got on my nerves. So I let World Championships and Olympic Games pass me by. And the Swiss television with its news is so unspeakably stupid, ridiculous and corrupt as probably the...

Re: Adding arrows to pics the way Paint does in Windows

Thanks. LibreOffice Draw is completely underestimated. E.g. 3D things, rotating bodies, transparent shadows, arrangements on different levels and so on... these are things that some time ago were reserved for programs like Illustrator or Freehand.

Re: Dyslexia and computers

I've seen that font before. If ever there was a force for good on this planet, it's the Free Software community. When I look at this typeface, it looks like a gothic written by hand - with a pen and watery, not covering ink. For those with dyslexia, perhaps constructed fonts are too static, too acc...

Re: Cheesetracker

CheeseTracker is modeled after a DOS-based freeware program called Impulse Tracker (which has been abandonware since the late 1990s). It is mostly compatible with Impulse Tracker, being able to load Impulse Tracker files. Alternatives to Impulse Tracker: https://alternativeto.net/software/psycle/ h...

Re: Linux Mint 18.3: Internet Browsers

Vivaldi, Opera, Firefox in that order.

Opera (with activated VPN somewhere in the Americas) was very useful this week, because among other things the Mint forums was not available.

Of course, all of them have uBlock Origin installed.

Re: Turn a bunch of colored JPG files in one folder into grayscale

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Binary_image This is what I feared: "Bitmap" as an image mode in Photoshop has nothing to do with the Windows standard picture format (.bmp). Pure black and white conversion in GIMP (second attempt, and that in German...) : Image > Mode > Indexed > 1-Bit Black & White ...

Aha - Paragon is not ready yet - the formatting will cost extra...!

Fortunately I don't need a new Mac...

Yes... https://backstage.paragon-software.com/ ... pfs-linux/
If you work on Linux computer and want to read or write APFS-formatted HDD, SSD or flash drive, you need APFS for Linux by Paragon Software.

Just 100mbs???...under "ethernet" mine says 1000...can that be correct?...DAMIEN
It's also called Gigabit Ethernet - not Gigabyte Ethernet.

100MB/s (100Megabytes) as Catweazel writes is already correct... These speed specifications are somewhat case-sensitive

By the way: Since last Monday I can only reach the Mint-Forums via Opera with VPN - switched on somewhere in the Americas... Firefox and Vivaldi are unusable.

Re: Dyslexia and computers

This reminds me of the following event: in Switzerland we had the PTT (Post/Telephone/Telegraph) as a state institution until the nineties. Then they discovered that Switzerland was the Disney edition of the United States and everything was switched to the private sector. PTT became Swisscom, unchan...

Re: If Printing Services Stops - No Fix - Just Reinstall

This isn't just Mint.... 25 years of Mac and in between some Windows and Linux variants have taught me to distrust all possible printers and their drivers to the highest degree. I don't know if it's bad will or inability - but these things never work as I would like them to. The same printer, on the...

Re: Dyslexia and computers

I am always interested in visual perception - as an illustrator and graphic artist I would like to convey as much good information as possible to my readers and viewers. I am quite amazed at the statement that sans serif fonts are better readable than serif fonts. This contradicts to all common read...

Re: Turn a bunch of colored JPG files in one folder into grayscale

O.K. I am an old Mac OS, OSX / Photoshop user and my beloved applications are now hopelessly antiquated... what still works best on my old computers - but it can not be easily transferred to a current Linux, Windows or macOS System. I have played around in a current GIMP 2.10 - and Oops! the convert...

Re: Something wrong with the pricing?

I just bought an Epson ET-2650 Eco tank. ads say: "Includes enough ink to print up to 4, 000 pages black/6, 500 color (2) — equivalent to about 20 ink cartridge sets (3) Save up to 80 percent on ink with low-cost replacement bottles (4) — plus easy-to-fill, supersized ink tanks" Hopefully this ink ...

Re: Turn a bunch of colored JPG files in one folder into grayscale

The end is saving space on Kobo reader and speeding up performance on the ereader If you want to minimize the amount of image data on an ebook reader (Kobo) it would be good to know which image formats can be read at all. Bitmap (pure black-and-white conversion) would also be a very economical opti...

Re: Turn a bunch of colored JPG files in one folder into grayscale

I have a bunch of JPG files in a folder. They are full-color. To save space, I'd like to turn them into grayscale (16 shades max), but without losing quality . How can I do this easily? The conversion of JPG's is always afflicted with quality losses - and in addition into 16 grey tones... ... ...
