Re: Turn a bunch of colored JPG files in one folder into grayscale

I have a bunch of JPG files in a folder. They are full-color. To save space, I'd like to turn them into grayscale (16 shades max), but without losing quality . How can I do this easily? The conversion of JPG's is always afflicted with quality losses - and in addition into 16 grey tones... ... ...

Re: Something wrong with the pricing?

It can happen that you buy a toner at auction (CHF 10.-) and get the matching printer for free...

Re: Kindle reading

The analog aspect is now emerging (device independence... readability and understanding of the same...) and may be a joke number for the time being. If there will be a more or less cultivated humanity in the future, it will be a serious area of study. I don't know if I will be able to  :mrg...

Re: Understanding Linux Mint

Perhaps as a preparation: Any, really any Windows or Mac user can install very, very many of the free "Linux" programs on "his" or "her" or "their" operating system: Libre Office, GIMP, FreeCAD, Krita etc. pp. - run - and do it well. In a second step you can change your operating system. You already...

Re: Internet intolerably slow

With 4G / LTE my provider promised me 54Mbits (corresponding to 6.75MBytes) maximum data throughput. It's nice that I already broke through the 8 MBytes limit at Central European bedtimes (technically, that seems to work...). At the main TV time (from 5.30 a.m.) the local dominant landline distribut...

Re: 750 MB. WOW! "What would you do with SO MUCH hard disc space ?"

In the early eighties my father had bought a Sharp pocket computer, with BASIC programming language. As kids we installed a golf game, which existed of nothing else but a number counting down till zero. You had to press exactly the right time for the number to land on ZERO exactly, which meant you ...

Re: Codex Leicester and Leonardo Da Vinci

Why? Maybe originally writing was by chiselling in stone, the chisel held in the left hand, hammer in the right. Pretty painful times for a left-handed stonecutter. But maybe it was also allowed to change the tools...? Apart from that, writing - carved in stone - is rather the exception, but it rem...

Re: What Fonts are you using?

Fonts is a broad term... My favorite fonts are still those where Mrs. Carol Twombly (... and Robert Slimbach) was involved. Besides the fonts of Mr. Frutiger, who was otherwise exploited... A quite good Garamond is also freely available: EB Garamond. http://www.georgduffner.at/ebgaramond/ or Synapti...
