Re: It's not ready to replace Windows yet

Change an configuration or uninstall a default program is a big problem in Windows. In most cases, installing a printer or another device is easier in Linux. You don"t have to insert a CD or reboot your system. And the command line is a little harder because most users are now used to only using mou...

I use Gloria and I have a Canon-Pixma-MP170 and I only manage to make it work after installing Xsane and opening Xsane as root through terminal. Now I can use it with Xsane or Scan Utility. Jedidiah, if you manage to get it orking with Xsane, try opening with Scan-utility now. It might work like it ...

Re: Scanner problem

Type "sudo su" in your terminal and login as root. Then type "xsane". You will problably get a warning message saying that it is not recommended to open xsane as root. Just ignore it.

You should be able to use your scanner now.

Re: LiveUSB Persistent

I think installing Mint in your usb would the same as installing in a external hd. You will to create a swap partition too.

As long as you set the machines to boot from usb, I believe it would work on most computers.

Re: It's not ready to replace Windows yet

Although Linux and Windows are both OS, you could say they are two completely different things. They both have advantages and disadvantages. I don't think Windows is easier than Linux. Try formating Windows for example or using a firewall and antivirus. What made me replace Windows for Linux was "co...

Re: Can not boot Mint 7 after power outtage. Help...

ata1: SRST failed (errno=-16) means that there is a problem with one of the drivers.

I suggest a fresh install too. I don`t recommend trying to learn things too fast because as markcynt said, you may get frustrated.

Re: how do you do a fresh install?

Create a /data partitions is a great idea too.
It all depends on what kind of files or data you have in your system. Having these extra partitions is great for backing-up things when you wanna make a fresh install.

That message means that it recognizes wireless connections. You should be able to see a list of connections available.

Try using your LiveCD and see if your connection works fine there.

Runes of Magic runs okay under Wine as far as I know. If Wine is installed correctly just double click the file or choose "open with Wine" and install it. In the case of Regnum, there is a version for Linux. I believe that the one you have there. Drag the file with blue diamond shape in your home fo...

What is the extension of these files you downloaded?

I am sure it is not deb. I believe is exe, in this case you will need Wine installed. You can install it through synaptic or software manager, just type wine.
