FedoraRefugee I think I've seen you post it before, and it's certainly worth posting again:

Re: How to install a LAMP server in Helena

The only way that I know of to install 5.3 is to recompile php and do a full install (not a fun type of activity). You can be pretty much assured that most hosting services will not roll out 5.3 in a timely fashion. -DataMan Believe it or not, I'm forced to use (at work) one hosting service that's ...

Re: A quick easy question.

Hey, why give him the difficult languages? Everyone should start their programming with a nice easy language like Brainf*ck Hello World! example: ++++++++++[>+++++++>++++++++++>+++>+<<<<-]>++.>+.+++++++..+++.>++.<<+++++++++++++++.>.+++.------.--------.>+.>. Edit: seriously though, Python.

Re: website compiler

Why is that crazy? It's precisely what I've done. Well, I have the LAMP stack installed for local testing of websites before I put them live, and a wordpress install on there that I've never really used. In answer to the original post, I hand code my HTML, CSS and PHP in a text editor, tes...

Re: Marketing proposal: KDE to became the default DE for Min

Heh. I completely disagree. If anything I'd prefer Mint to move towards the more lightweight minimalist DEs or WMs: LXDE, fluxbox, etc. I don't want bloat, I want fast and responsive. But that's just my preference. GNOME is (in my opinion) more newbie-friendly, and as Mint is aiming for the newbie e...

Re: One more reason to never use Windows

Good post, thank you. My pleasure. I am not frustrated with you. I just want everyone to acknowledge what is fact and what is hypothesis. Yes, that seems fair enough. If you were to argue those Biblical issues with me then I would show you what the Bible has to say about them. It is then up to you ...

Indeed, if it goes the way it looks like going, I'll be moving full-time to the Fluxbox edition I think. (The two options I voted for were Gnome and Fluxbox. Kendall has done a great job with the Fluxbox CE IMO.)

*takes a deep breath* I have a good deal of respect for you FedoraRefugee . I've been around on these boards for long enough to see how much you contribute to the community. Re: Linux Mint 8 "Helena" released!

When will Mint 9 be released? After the next Ubuntu release, each Mint version follows after an Ubuntu version. Mint 8 Helena was based on Ubuntu Karmic Koala Mint 7 Gloria was based on Jaunty Jackalope and so on. Lucid Lynx is due at the end of next month, Mint 9 will probably follow about a month...

Re: Will you upgrade- or stay?

I upgraded from 7 to 8 with no problems, I think I'll risk the 8 to 9 upgrade too. Even if it borks, I have a separate /home partition so I can just install 9 in / and away we go.

Re: One more reason to never use Windows

I'm not trying to argue from wikipedia. It's merely a demonstration that there is no serious scientific dissent from AGW. If you look at the research papers coming out these days, the debates are about things like why model predictions of outgoing longwave radiation at the top of the atmosphere in t...

Re: One more reason to never use Windows

CO2, as a greenhouse gas, warms the atmosphere. Human activity is adding CO2 quicker than it is being removed. QED anthropogenic global warming! None of your links dispute this simple fact. And the plain fact is that you are wrong when you say they still don't attribute it do global warming . OK, I...

Aww, that is most unfortunate! Never mind the science, just try to discredit those who disagree with you! OK, fair enough. I'll withdraw the accusation about Monckton being a paid shill. Having examined it more closely I can't find enough to substantiate the claim. (I'll ignore the quote-mining fro...

Re: One more reason to never use Windows

A July 2007 review of 539 abstracts in peer-reviewed scientific journals from 2004 through 2007 found that climate science continues to shift toward the views of global warming skeptics  That's not a peer-reviewed study, it's a piece of astroturf by Lord Monckton, bought and paid for by the oi...
