Re: One more reason to never use Windows

I can see no reason that carrying out your bottle experiment is going to convince me enough that co2 is causing global warming Because the answer you'll get won't be the one you want. You're unwilling to check for yourself, which is what science is all about. Just confirms my opinion of your argume...

Re: One more reason to never use Windows

I have to agree with Midnighter on this statment Visible light from the Sun warms the ground, which then radiates in IR. As CO2 does not let this IR back through to radiate away into space, the atmosphere warms. Quoting unproven c**p does not make you any sort of authority. You've clearly already m...

Re: One more reason to never use Windows

I've studied this quite a bit. I'm interested in our world. Quoting unproven crap does not make you any sort of authority. You've clearly already made up your mind, so i can't be bothered wasting my time with close-minded people. Do you want me to link to a number of studies showing just how full o...

Re: One more reason to never use Windows

There is no uncertainty about this. Planet Earth is warming, and humans are the main reason for the world's temperature increase over the past 50 years. There is no solid evidence that suggests this, well none that hasn't come from a political organisation like the IPPC, That's simply not true. And...

Re: One more reason to never use Windows

But if man made global warming really is a factor then you are just beating your head against a wall in trying to fix it. Do you really believe China, India, much of South America, and other industrial centers are going to play ball? Do you really believe big business in the US and Europe are going...

Re: One more reason to never use Windows

Yes, being condescending always warms people to your point of view. And regurgitating discredited talking-points does nothing for yours. Are you a scientist now? Because a quite few of them are not remotely convinced of any such link, there are entire petitions full of them. I'm not currently worki...

Re: What Linux OS is recommended for an old laptop?

If you're happy with command-line, Arch Linux with a lightweight window manager can run in a very small memory footprint. I have an Arch/LXDE install on one of the partitions on my laptop; idling it only uses about 40MB of RAM, and only just over 100MB with Firefox running.

Re: One more reason to never use Windows

Their is no solid link showing human made CO2 emissions and global climate are linked. None whatsoever. CO 2 is opaque to infra-red (heat). The more CO 2 there is in the atmosphere, the more heat it stores, the hotter global temperatures get. I do not know why this is so hard for people to understa...

Re: One more reason to never use Windows

Arrant nonsense. Bill Gates wants to reduce population growth . Which, given that there are 6 billion plus people in the world, might not be a bad idea. By no means do I carry a brief for Gates, but to suggest that he's advocating eugenics is quite frankly insane. This is just propaganda from the an...

Re: Please NO mono in Mint

As someone has resurrected this thread I may as well chuck in my twopennorth: Personally, I have removed Mono (and the apps that depend on it) from my Mint system. I never used the Mono apps and I can always use the HD space; anti-Microsoft paranoia was only a side issue (I think my tinfoil hat was ...

I think oldlearner may be trying to record the sound from youtube videos as he (she? ) plays them on the site? That won't work. What you need to do is download the flash video (see here: http://www.techdrivein.com/2009/12/download-youtube-videos-in-ubuntu.html and yes I know it says Ubuntu but Mint ...

Re: How to convert Video to mp3 ?

You want: ffmpeg -i video_name.mp4 -ac 2 -ab 192 mp3_name.mp3 the -i flag specifies your input file the -ac flag specifies number of channels (2 for stereo) the -ab flag specifies bitrate in kbps (you can change this to whatever value you prefer) If that still doesn't work try ffmpeg -i video_name.m...
