Re: Need help with networking

Thanks again. This time, I got the VM talking to the LM host and vice versa. The KVM guest cannot connect to some of the displayed LM shares (on different media) and alerts me of a permissions problem. Shares from the LM host machine user folder are working. Currently smbguest has membership of kvm,...

Greetings I used to have Nemo - Connect to Server working till recently. I was trying to get Samba to work with virtualbox and did not succeed. In the process, I think I broke something. [SOLVED] USB device 'reset' trouble

Greetings I have now been using mint for almost 3 years. As an embedded systems coder, I have to use various USB devices as IC flashing tools. Now, I have run into a peculiar problem that I have managed to narrow down to the Linux system. There is a device programmer that is detected well and shows ...

Virtualbox and NTFS access via VB Shared folders

Out of curiosity : In case of an abrupt power failure, I want to understand how virtualbox handles data integrity of shared folder access to NTFS partitions. I know the journalling file systems of Linux bring a lot of stability and data integrity to the Linux file systems in case of an abrupt power ...

Hi, Umesh India.
Would you please elucidate a bit as for what do you mean by "Hindi is not right"??
I tested to see what Umesh is referring to.

Typing HI using the Hindi keyboard, general GUI implementations show correctly हि whereas the terminal implementation shows ह ि ..

Re: Midi out of the box (LM18 Sarah)

Wow, that's a lot of deep knowledge you've shared. Glad to know that. I chanced upon this midi problem as I was trying to figure out which tune will sound good on a microcontroller player.

Re: Midi out of the box (LM18 Sarah)

Thanks Hoser Rob The mint-meta-codecs helped. However, it appears that Videos is now able to play the MID files. SMplayer still plays as if it does not see the codecs. The motorboating screechy sound is present. So, it isn't a system wide solution probably - doesn't matter much to me. Sorry for not ...

Midi out of the box (LM18 Sarah)

Is midi not supported out of the box? I tried to play some MID files and they sound like just motorboating. Then after reading up various posts, I decided to add the fluidsynth extension to VLC player and can play some semblance of MIDI. However, the sound played by VLC with fluidsynth extension is ...

Re: Unusual behavior with Yahoo Mail & FF 59.0.2(64bit)

Just some additional info

The status bar shows that it is trying to reach s.yimg.com

From the terminal, ping s.yimg.com works with very low latencies.

Unusual behavior with Yahoo Mail & FF 59.0.2(64bit)

Greetings I have this nagging problem where Yahoo mail running on firejailed FF59 is regularly going into a zombie mode. In this, the page loads and I can view the emails. However, the only thing which works is to click back on Inbox and select a new mail from there. I cannot use the Next/Previous/D...

Not knowing the context of your question, I would hazard a guess. It could be a query based approach to set up your email account.

Re: Virtualbox WinXP guest with guest additions

One question gets answered by the Help file in VBox

Intel added support for nested paging, which they call "extended page tables" (EPT), with their Core i7 (Nehalem) processors.

I have an early Quad Core CPU which belongs to the Core2 family, so, possibly nested paging is not supported on it.

Re: Virtualbox WinXP guest with guest additions

No luck with VB5.1 either. It behaves just the same. I uninstalled virtualbox via synaptic - removed totally - rebooted - installed VB5.1 - installed 5.1 extensions - started VM - installed 5.1guest additions - rebooted. Launched VM - still the same behaviour. Nested paging and unrestricted executio...

Re: Virtualbox WinXP guest with guest additions

Yes Cinnamon still runs in software rendering mode. You might try to revert to VB 5.1.latest. You need to uninstall VB 5.2 at first, reboot the host, than install 5.1.32. Note, that the guest additions for this version have the same bug as for the latest 5.2 revision. You find a corrected version of...
