Re: VBOX with WIN 7 (access to Mint files?)

You need to find out which hard disk your Downloads resides on. The usual convention is that harddisk1 is called sda, partition 1 of hard disk 1 is called sda1, partition 2 of hdd1 is sda2 and so on. Harddisk2 would be sdb and the partitions on it sdb1, sdb2 etc So, you need to identify the hard dis...

Re: VBOX with WIN 7 (access to Mint files?)

In shared folders, you need to specify the drive/folder you wish to access. For example, you might want to share the /dev/sda1 drive with VBOX guest, so, you need to place that entry in the shared folders. Now, in W7, you need to access the shared drive as a network drive. You will find it under Net...

Re: OffTopic:Problem with VLC icecast radio directory

okay, seems like there must have been some problem with the particular server/wherever it was seeking the stations list. Just started working without doing anything on my side. The list seems truncated which confirms that it might have been a server side problem. There is no way to know the URL that...

Re: OffTopic:Problem with VLC icecast radio directory

Thank you greerd. I did not know of this application. Works for me.

However, it doesn't have as extensive a list as was available in VLC icecast radio directory.

OffTopic:Problem with VLC icecast radio directory

Can anyone confirm - starting today, I'm having no Icecast radio directory listing in VLC player. Cannot identify what could possibly be wrong. Even tried resetting to defaults so that any stuck configs should not trouble it. No luck yet. Got the station I want to hear from dir.xiph.org. Open URL co...

Thanks for your responses. I will dig into them slowly.

Yes, Puppy is brilliant - however, it seems very old and not updated now.

Just airing my experience

Yesterday was a bad linux day for me. My hard disk that was on a limp suddenly decided to start break dancing. Running system LM18.Cinnamon suddenly started giving mounting errors for the NTFS partitions on the physical hard drive. FYI - the same HD has LM(ext4) and 3 NTFS partitions. Thinking the O...

Re: What could be causing this freeze up?

Wow. That is a keen eye must say. However, what I can't understand is the sudden appearance of this problem. The machine worked fine for at least 3 months. I will most certainly revert to the F8 version that I have saved from the original. Thank you. Edit: I just checked again. This link definitely ...

What could be causing this freeze up?

Today, after a long browsing session, Firefox seemed to have locked up and become unresponsive. Accompanied by the hard disk light at full on, I knew something was amiss. htop showed this firefox crash.jpg Mem shows 87.5% in the firefox processes. At that time, the entire system went into a sluggish...

Re: Severe delay noticed while running backup copy

Depending on what you consider "integrated", try "xfe". I meant tightly integrated into the desktop like Nemo. When I click on the Home folder icon, it starts Nemo; any mount operations too happen inside it. I looked at xfe. Better than the CLI for sure. Krusader seems nice, but seemed to dismount ...

Re: Severe delay noticed while running backup copy

Yes, the source disk is internal and the backup disk is on USB2.

I have been trying out other options like PCMan and Krusader. Is there a better option for cinnamon in place of Nemo and how can it be integrated into the desktop?

Re: Severe delay noticed while running backup copy

I take the point that Nemo could be having issues; I had a suspicion about it. I'll try later with terminal and cp.

BTW: both source and destination file systems are NTFS.

Thanks for now.

Severe delay noticed while running backup copy

I was backing up a file of 21.5G to an external USB drive using Nemo. The progress bar was moving normally and everything was going fine. In the background, I had VLC playing an internet radio station. All good till now. Now, I fired up firefox running under firejail control. It froze my desktop so ...

Re: Bluetooth Turns Itself Off Linux Mint 17.3

I am on Mint 18.1 cinnamon and face a similar situation. Using an external USB bluetooth adaptor, it is not detected when plugged in. Bluetooth program says "no adapters found" Ran 'bluetoothctl' from terminal. It listed the bluetooth devices known to the adapter. Now, Bluetooth program (from menu) ...
