Re: A view from Joe Bloggs.

Hi All Perhaps before this goes to far, I must qualify a few areas of my comment. Yes - Linux is easy to use ! From the very first paragraph (and para.4/5 and last) the vain throughout is: Linux falls over at the very first step as it is very difficult to install. As I said - "Loaded once by acciden...

Re: Error message blk-update- request loading to SSD

Hi Mintbean It gets to (i think) run Mint 18.1 / safemode / etc. and goes into terminal mode and flashes up the aforesaid and repeats itself. I'm guessing it's refering to the SSD but I'm not certain. Tried also to load up Linux Lite 3.6 and it got to a rather nice looking feather and crashed leavin...

Re: Can I ghost linux on a HDD onto a SSD

Many thanks again Austin for your input.

Your recommendation is going to need a serious deep breathe before I start! Having been unable to load Mint onto a blank SSD I don't hold much hope of getting through that lot of instruction with success. I'll try. Oh for a 'cut n paste'.

Cheers

Can I ghost linux on a HDD onto a SSD

Hi All

I'm still here trying to master Linux!

I have Mint on my old laptop with a HDD but trying to get Linux onto a SSD on that computer is not working. So - can I ghost ( i think that's the expression) everything from the HDD to the SSD?

Cheers

Firefox stalling & crash

Hi All

Cinnamon 3.0.7

I'm having a problem with Firefox 53.0.3 Linux 4.4.0-21-generic which keeps crashing or stalling. My only clue is a popup
" Script: chrome://flashvideodownload/co…/popup/lib/jquery-2.1.4.min.js:3"
Any ideas?

Re: Unable to find a medium containing a live file system

Hi Dave. No luck. I've ordered another disc from the Linux Shop and when that arrives I'll give that a spin. That'll establish a duff cd or not. Just about to leave another message on the board - Can I load Mint onto a fresh SSD on one computer and then run that same SSD on installed on another comp...

Re: Unable to find a medium containing a live file system

I reckon the answer is in
'(initramfs) Unable to find a medium containing a live file system'

That looks like it can't find the cd - but - it must have found it to do the initial boot.

I'll take another look tommorow morning.

Cheers.

Re: Unable to find a medium containing a live file system

Hi Dave

Yes - it boots initially, it goes through the boot process to try to get to a live desktop off the disc/CD but fails with the message

'(initramfs) Unable to find a medium containing a live file system'

That's the last line. No Grub response.

Re: Unable to find a medium containing a live file system

Hi Dave The computer knows it's there as it come up in the bios order. Now I know a little knowledge is a dangerous thing - but - can I put in something like 'c:/format' into the command line that's running on the laptop I'm trying to load Mint onto or connect it as slave to this 64 bit laptop? What...

Re: Unable to find a medium containing a live file system

Hi Dave

No - just plugged it in. Don't recall doing that before with the previous HDD.

Worth a try? Then the next question is how and what format - IDE /NTS or whatever. Can I do this on my 64bit (w10 - spit) laptop as a secondary drive?

Re: Unable to find a medium containing a live file system

Just a thought - sitting here pondering over a cuppa and an asprin - I wonder if this has something to do with the new disc having to be formatted as IDE / SATA and the like expressions that I don't understand, or maybe I'm on brain overload having read so much stuff on these pages and the net!

Re: Unable to find a medium containing a live file system

Hi Dave CD boots from drive and goes through the Linux logos and blinking dots and then throws up the previously mentioned messages. I've no other 32bit laptop, and get the feeling, as its recognising the cd then the drives ok. Loaded & worked on this computer originally - I've just changed the HDD ...

Re: Unable to find a medium containing a live file system

Hi Dave

Thanks for the reply.

Yes a 32 bit computer that I had Mint installed on via same CD. I've just changed the original HDD to a SSD.
Yes, I changed the BIOS to CD.
Looking at some of the gobbledy gook there maybe a clue
'buffer i/o error on devsr0, logical block 0, async page read'
