Re: Skype for Mint 18 32 bit

Ah - thanks so much - that was so easy! I spent so much time trying to find an answer 'Googling'.

It might seem repetitive to the initiated with this sort of question but believe me, as a newbie, you save so much frustration. I've learnt so much in the last half hour.
Cheers.

Re: Skype for Mint 18 32 bit

Hi Joe

There's a choice of 6 distributions - any idea which one? I tried the 'dynamic' version which downloaded ok but I can't get it to run.

So many thanks. I'm sticking with it.

Hi all. First and foremost - thank you all for your positive posts - not one negative comment which is very encouraging. After a good nights kip, and a bit of reflection, I'm sticking with it. Looks like I was trying to bite off more than I could chew. I need to do some more research. Despite this h...

Re: I'm about to ditch Mint!

Hi Well I reckoned the flash drive would be quicker to run instead of the dvd drive churning/grunting and, for me , a better way to try Linux on my old computer that I use for storage at the moment. The real question is - can Linux be made made user friendly or do the unenlightened have to suffer Wi...

I'm about to ditch Mint!

Hi all. A bit of food for thought for you - I wonder how you'll react? Well - after 8 frustrating hours the time is approaching when, unless I get a lightbulb moment, I ditch Linux. I started with high hopes that I could finally flush Windows 10 ( a truly awful product) but I'm seriously thinking of...

Re: How to start Mint

Just going through this myself as a newbie. I'm no techy wizard but hope this helps. If you're running on a computer with 'Windows' then you need to shut down and when you turn it on again press F1 or whichever the screen suggests to get to the BIOS settings page and set the boot preference to the d...

Re: Transfer Mint on a dvd to a bootable usb? Bythe way....

Forgot to mention - I've a spare computer running Windows 10 - (Urgh!) if that helps? Actually, Windows 10 is why I'm trying to get into Linux!

Transfer Mint on a dvd to a bootable usb?

Hi All. Forgive me for this post. It might well be answered long before - indeed 'old hat' to some but I'm running around in circles. What is the easy way to transfer Mint on a dvd to a bootable usb? I've looked for hours and got nowhere fast. I tried 'usb Image Writer' but cannot select the dvd dri...

Should I try to get rid of Win 10?

Hi all. Another convert here. Have to say I'm buzzing a bit. I saw the post from 'Silver Surfer' and think swopping the drives is a good idea (good example of KISS - keep it simple stupid!) I'm toying with the idea of a flash drive to boot from and keeping data. I have a 128gb drive at the mo which ...
