Did you try to (re-) boot with noacpi set as (additional / temporary) kernel parameter (as described in this text) ...?

Re: Separate /home and /data on a dual boot laptop

Would that make any difference at all? :?: Nope. - Anyway, I'd restrain from updating the file system table until manually mounting the data partition has proven successful: sudo mount -t ext4 /dev/sda8 /data mount | grep '^/dev/' Sidenote: within a terminal, I'd rather use a text editor like nano ...

Re: Preserving an old file system during a new installation

Close to what you suggested...

- I'd disconnect all critical drives while installing Linux Mint;
- then reboot (to verify the installation) and reconnect those drives;
- then mount all relevant partitions manually in read-only mode;
- then (success assumed) update Mint's /etc/fstab accordingly.

Re: WiFi shuts down when system inactive

AFAIK the package linux-firmware does not contain the module rt2800usb . ( apt-file list linux-firmware | grep 'rt2800' returns nothing - on my LM18, that is...) Which is why I suggested you'd do an apt-file search for the module's actual package: sudo apt-get install apt-file sudo apt-file update s...

Re: Windows 10 problem after installing Mint 18.1

I just wondered if I had done something while installing Mint which upset windows. Fair enough. But from your first post (to this thread) I take it that both Linux and Windoze were fully usable - until you "allowed windows to do updates". Which is why I'd try to rollback those first (if possible; m...

I beg to differ - on every desktop / laptop computer I'm currently working with, the first disk hosts all operating systems required, while the second disk hosts all user / working data.

Re: Windows 10 problem after installing Mint 18.1

Now, Mint boots and runs fine but windows boots but cannot get to the desktop screen. Wouldn't it be more efficient to ask someone potentially closer to the source of your trouble, e.g. http://forums.windowscentral.com/windows-10/ ...? a notification which said there was a drive problem Merely a gu...

Your recent report (http://paste2.org/FnGGF3w1) states that both boot loader (on </dev/sda>) and boot flag (on </dev/sda1>) are missing.
