Re: Can someone help me to these drawbacks is shown in white to the right of the task bar?

If I understand correctly, you guys want the background around those icons to be dark, instead of white? Mine is dark on Mint 18.1, I am not sure what I did to get this, but I don't think I ever had the panel dark with white only in that area. http://www.zimagez.com/miniature/screenshot2017-06-1710-...

Re: ? 3 ways to UPDATE Linux Mint. What is best ? (Solved)

I have gone with the middle option. But prior to going with Mint, for 3 years on 3 different machines, I had used Xubuntu and Peppermint 5, both of which just updated everything, without giving the user any alternative options and I never had a problem related to updates.

Re: Mint as replacement for Windoze?

I'd go for it, but be sure that you can reinstall Windows just in case (I don't know what is required for that these days). My wife got a Dell laptop that came with Windows 7 in fall of 2013. At just about the same time I first began trying Linux. I was (am) pretty command prompt or terminal-phobic,...

boot message: unable to get SMM Dell Signature

As Mint is booting up on an old Dell Studio 1440/14z laptop, the message: "dell_smm_hwmon: unable to get SMM Dell Signature" appears and it stops there and won't finish loading Mint. This happened after installing Mint 18 XFCE 64 bit and rebooting successfully once. Also tried an installation of Pep...

Re: which upgrade versions should I choose ?

You really should just choose one of the two safer update policies and then install all recommended updates. You can check the current setting by clicking on the shield, then click "edit" and "update policy". The middle one is the default: "optimize stability and security" either choose that or "don...

Re: No sound coming out of headphones when I plug them in

Might check the "configuration" tab in sound settings. I don't use headphones but had to tell it that I wanted to use HDMI for sound there, when there was no sound initially after plugging the cable in. You can click on the sound icon on right side of panel and one option there should be "settings",...

Re: Tooltip color / Font size

There's a clumsy way to increase the font size: in "Appearance", under "fonts" you can choose a custom DPI setting and enlarge everything. I suppose you could then use various other settings to reduce the things that you didn't want to enlarge.

Re: adding items to panel question

There's also the items tab in panel where there are arrows on the right to move items one spot at a time.

I've done it that way before as I was not aware of the right click method.

Re: Can't see Background images in Desktop settings...

I haven't need to change my background image for a few weeks, so I suspect the problem may have resulted from a system update at some time over the past few weeks. FWIW, I do not have that issue and system is updated. I have XFCE 18.1, 64 bit and all updates installed for levels 1-3 (I exclude leve...

Re: Can size of update manager icon be increased in panel?

I found the solution for myself. Right click on panel, in the "items" tab click on "notifications area". Then on the right side there is an option to edit the selected item (it's the icon just below the red X). This edit window has a maximum icon size specified and I had to increase that specificati...

Re: Can size of update manager icon be increased in panel?

None of the icon themes under "Appearance" change the Mint update icon at all (or the dropbox icon) and the size stays the same. I noticed that reducing the height of panel does shrink the mint update icon, but it seems like there are only two sizes and it changes when go from 22-23 pixels. Then the...

Re: Can size of update manager icon be increased in panel?

I'm at 47 and no change to the right side ones. If I go bigger they move into two rows. At 50 the window buttons also move into two rows, rather than ever increasing in size. I have panel set to allow one row, but some of the items do not obey that.

Can size of update manager icon be increased in panel? [SOLVED]

I increased the height of the panel by adjusting the row size pixels in "panel preferences". The menu and launcher icons increased in size automatically with the panel, but the mint update manager icon on the right end of the panel does not change size. Is there any way to make that icon bigger to m...

Re: username

You have a "Users and Groups" program in your Menu, that can do both of those things, and create a password for "guy". Menu > Administration > Users and Groups Hi, I am curious why this could not be used to change username that was put in when Mint was installed? There is an option to change that i...

I see, I don't use firefox at all and mistakenly assumed those few days had passed by now. :)

Reminds me of the days when I had to disguise chrome/linux, which was a huge improvement from struggles with pipelight, etc.

Re: +HBO+netflix+64bit+17

Why you can't use Firefox, is due to Netflix policy. I think it's Firefox (Mozilla) policy, actually? But anyway, as you note Chrome works without any need for modifications. And their site should present the correct version, for Debian/Ubuntu/Fedora/openSUSE, when you go there: https://www.google....
