Re: Speed up mint

I don't know if pjotr's site linked by damien mentions turning off desktop compositing in Xfce but it does speed things up. Just go to settings > desktop settings > window manager. Click the popup and select 'Xfwm4' instead of 'Wfwm + compositing'. No reboot needed. Yeah,...it sure does Rob...i jus...

Re: mirrors unreachable

Getting rid of one browser doesn't fix another browser or make it faster; If Firefox slowed down after the last update, that is something wrong with Firefox, not Linux Mint. In other words,, stop worrying about your browsers and changing things relating to your browsers while trying to fix Mint Upd...

Re: Why do I need to type my password to perform admin tasks?

On Linux systems, it will only recognize you as "user" until you need to do anything that would effect changes to the kernel where you would then use "sudo" etc. and then asks for a password so it knows that your admin, This is part of Linux security and one of the many reasons w...

It strikes me that zRAM is clutching at straws. It would be better to investigate upgrading the RAM.
I tend to agree with this viewpoint as well...DAMIEN

Chromium discussion

I'll bet this is due to the snap thing. They should still be updating for Xenial though. Version 1.16.76 Chromium: 86.0.4240. 198 (Official Build) (64-bit) Its actually long past "111" at the moment as my Brave Browser is showing since it too is based on Chromium. I cant prove it, but im ...

Re: How to clean install Windows 10 alongside Linux Mint?

The best advice i could give you is either use windows as a VM, if your machine has the power to do so, or, since you have an empty SSD, to just install Windows 10 on that and keep the 2 systems seperate...Windows has a very bad habit with its updates and upgrades to wipe out your Grub boot and you ...
