IRC/HexChat problem with LM group?

I can get on freenode but not the Linux Mint group in spotchat. I registered a name and password successfully using the browser based product, but hexchat won't let me log in.

Panel problem behavior

I cannot go into this fully right at the moment, but I wanted to start a talk about what could cause it: After some time after boot, button clicks cease to respond, but if I catch it early enough (the problem) I can click on the Panel Menu button to simply bring up the menu and back down again, and ...

Re: When did you come to Linux?

JOE, do you have your firewall set up properly to allow the IP of the printer? Did you install drivers?

Re: GUFW and my Wireless AOI Printer, how do I set up?

Edit, I think I've got it finally, after searching, I was making it harder than it needed to be and didn't know what IP to put first and second and what port to use. I would like to know how a pro would set it, rather than blanket IP allow both directions...

GUFW and my Wireless AOI Printer, how do I set up?

I am running 19.1 with Cinnamon. When I disable my GUFW wireless printing works, but I can't seem to find a setting that works for wirelss printing (and scanning). I tried advanced setup but I don't know what port to use and have no idea what I am doing.

Mood software?

I have mood disorder and anxiety. There are Android apps for those things, but are there PC Linux apps for them?

Re: Cinnamon status bar questions

Right after posting I did searching and yeah, panel. I think the reason I didn't remember that term is I tend to think of a panel like I think of a board of sheet rock, wide and long... That would be one way to deal with this, put the applications part of the pane in it's own bar up to the top of th...

Cinnamon status bar questions [solved]

I'm using 19.1 with Cinnamon. Embarassingly, I don't know what the bar that contains everything on the bottom is called and worse, I don't know how to fit enough apps loaded. IOW, if I have too many windows/things open, that status bar doesn't do a double row to fit them in, seems only doing alt-tab...

Re: When did you come to Linux?

Another thing about GNU/Linux that I love: It is a world-wide effort that benefits people all over the world, not just rich greedy Americans. Yes, much of the work on it is done by pad workers, but, as is seen in this forum, it's not centric to any place except that the English language is unavoidab...

Re: So if the Linux Kernel is written in C, what IDE do they use?

Great replies, thanks all. Now another question: If Linux doesn't use a registry and it uses configuration files inside the /etc directories, my next question may seem obvious: do the executables of all these programs have code that tells them to look into/refer to a given /etc directory for the con...

Re: When did you come to Linux?

Off topic: I had that car in your photo once. I think a great deal of users came over in the last few years. As things became less prone to headaches (dependency hell, driver issues), people have been finding that it's polished and less of a challenge than the Redmond product. Still, what distro you...

I personally don't like the AI concept. A former employer is using automation that replaced me and people aren't happy. I don't want to ruffle feathers so I'll stop there.

Re: So if the Linux Kernel is written in C, what IDE do they use?

Thanks xenopeek! I've only barely touched coding and that is why I'm asking these questions. C seems to be "the one to rule them all", I understand just a little of it to understand why it's used, it's closer to machine code and more explicit I believe. Will a time come with AI where devs won't need...

Re: When did you come to Linux?

Like many, including the OP, I recieved my share of "abuse" from some more skilled and knowledgable users. But different from them, most of them people who worked in the industry and had education and training, I was a more perenial user with a lot of different major interests in life, I couldn't se...

I've got so many kernels and I shouldn't have let them accumulate, removing them one by one is tedious, but yes, a great feature!

Why is booting taking significantly longer?

I'm running a home built system with boot SSD, the drive is at least 3 years old now I think. It is about 2/3 filled. For some reason in the last version release or the one before it (18.3 up?) it has started taking boot times that are now slow to the point of being similar to a good MHDD fresh inst...
