Re: Mint Debian

I've used remastersys to make my own private installable EduMint DVD distro. It's fairly easy to use and works surprising well for what I needed to do. It's worth experimenting with in my opinion.

Code: Select all

will clear the command line history; there's so much fun that you can have with the cli! :)

Re: HOWTO:Dlink DWA-552, 556 +more Atheros chipsets with Madwifi

Just an update as it has been awhile. As of today, I am now using Linux Mint 6 with the ath9k drivers as described at http://wireless.kernel.org/en/users/Download with my D-Link wireless cards DWA-552, DWA-652, and DWA-643 with a fair amount of success. The connection is almost always 100% (granted ...

 The irony of your user name is not lost here! The 64bit version has enough changes to differ it from the main edition, but let's leave it at that to keep it on the main page of DW.

Linux Mint mentioned in February PC World Forums (Letters)

I was browsing the magazine section at my local Safeway when I spotted an interesting letter written about alternate OS's to Windows in the February 2009 issue of PC World Magazine in the Forums section (p.11). The author mentions that he now uses Linux Mint exclusively and that it has taken the pla...

Re: GLaCiX - Artwork Brainstorming

Zwopper, I like the last post with the lettering inside the mountains and the "Slick and Quick" tag line since Debian is supposed to be just that. The colour scheme for the background appeals to me as well. Nice brainstorming.

Mint is #1 on Distrowatch...

Linux Mint is the #1 Linux Distro in the world... if you look at the last 7 days of Distrowatch's stats. Two releases this week didn't hurt either. I know fully well that Distrowatch stats aren't scientific results, but nevertheless, well done Clem and everyone helping out with producing Mint and al...

Re: New a new laptop now!

Are you dual-booting because you need Windoze at work? If not, you could get a Dell pre-loaded with Linux and then install Mint over it. Otherwise, go the dual-boot route with a notebook/laptop that is known to work with Linux, i.e., the pre-loaded Dells are alright. I don't have any experiences wit...

Re: Compile and Install Ndiswrapper release 1.53 for Mint wifi

I am using a Pentium 4 that is several years old so I found Daryna better suited for my needs. Elyssa seemed more bulkier in terms of speed on my system, and the wireless did not work right out of the box for me in either case, so I chose to load the new Ndiswrapper with Daryna. Actually, I now have...

Atheros ath9k drivers for D-Link DWA-552 et al. wireless

SUCCESS!!! I was able to successfully compile the ath9k driver into the linux 27rc3 kernel using Kevmitch's Debian instructions http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/How_to_install_the_development_version_of_atk9k (slightly modified for Linux Mint 4/Ubuntu Gutsy). I'm experiencing the false readin...

Compile and Install Ndiswrapper release 1.53 for Mint wifi

I solved my wireless problems by upgrading to the latest version (1.53) of Ndiswrapper by downloading from http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=93482 and compiling with these instructions https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WifiDocs/Driver/Ndiswrapper#Compiling%20the%20latest%20versio...

On the same subject, have you tried adjusting the memory allocation for openoffice? Tools - > Options -> Memory Increase "Use for OpenOffice.org" and "Memory per object". I did not try to adjust the settings for 2.4.1; good idea. However, I noticed that the memory settings were ...

OpenOffice.org 3 beta

If anyone is finding the current Linux (Mint) version of OpenOffice 2.4.1 very slow, I've just loaded the current beta 3 version from http://download.openoffice.org/3.0beta/ and surprisingly I find it runs faster. I have created a 52 page odt file that loads a lot of graphics. In the current stable ...

Great news! Atheros has released free linux drivers for 802.11n devices. Supported chips will include: * AR5418+AR5133 * AR5416+AR5133 * AR5416+AR2133 * AR9160 * AR9280 * AR9281 The news on the madwifi site: http://madwifi.org/wiki/news/20080725/ath9k-atheros-unveils-free-linux-driver-for More info:...

I very much agree. Hardy Heron broke compatibility with my Atheros drivers (DWA-552) ! All the fancy feel-good graphics is worthless if the features don't work.

Unfortunately I upgraded to Mint 5 R1 and my DWA-552 no longer works, despite a post at the madwifi compatibility page . Perhaps because the reporter's OS was Gentoo; Hardy Heron seems to have broken compatibility. :( *New Edit* re: D-Link DWA 552 chipset AR5008 (AR5416) wireless problems in ...

Will Mint 4 users be able to update through mintUpdate, or just through the Bind vulnerability ink provided? Casual Mint users may miss this forum announcement, but I realize it may be a lot of work to setup mintUpdate for previous versions of Mint.

Re: HOWTO:Dlink DWA-552, 556 +more Atheros chipsets with Madwifi

Thank you for spending time to post this information. It is very clear and concise. I used the instructions in the first post with my new D-Link DWA-552 wireless card and it works fine with Linux Mint 4 so far. I believe it is working in G mode and not N. The madwifi site seems to be down often as o...
