Re: How to Fix Brother Printer?

The Brother help desk has warned me never to call or email about Linux issues or I could potentially be banned from their site altogether. Wow That is bizarre !! If they said that to me I would be going to management and put in a serious complaint. Having said that, I have 2 Brother printers, a HL-...

Re: download of 2 Libre Office updates extremely slow

Happened to me this morning as well, I cancelled the d/l as it was ridiculously slow.
Tried again a couple hrs later and it was still slow but not as bad as earlier, finally got it done.
Must have been a server glitch.

I've been using Bitwarden ever since LastPass changed hands.
Works fine in Win10, Ubuntu and Mint.

Re: Why are boot & shutdown so much faster than Windows 10?

all of my linux machines take longer to start up than windows 10 ever did, but shut down was about the same, which was almost instantly. Which concurs with my experience. I am rarely even using Win10 now, probably once a week for updates. Since Mint was updated to 19.1 it's been so nice compared to...

Re: Why are boot & shutdown so much faster than Windows 10?

the reason that Win may startup is faster in your particular case might be because your using its "hybrid" shutdown which is really not a full shutdown at all...its a partial hybernation type of shutdown that is found in win 10 systems which results in a very fast startup...if that feature were dis...

Re: Why are boot & shutdown so much faster than Windows 10?

I find W10's startup is 5 secs compared to LM19.1 and Ubuntu 18.04, which is 12 secs, but shutdown is a different story, W10 takes quite a while whereas LM & Ubuntu is almost instantaneous.

Re: Need help with running old games

I've never been able to run games from Gog on Linux, gave up and run them under Windows, less stress !

Maybe someone else has an answer.

Re: Install Printer

Brother provides good linux support. Go to the brother website and search for linux drivers for your printer. You should find two deb files, one is the printer driver, the other the cupswrapper. Install the driver first (double click on the deb in file manager). The cupswrapper must be done second,...

Re: Install Printer

With Mint 19.1 I just turned the printer/s on and it installed the drivers automatically for both my Brother printers, HL-L2320D & MFC-9130CW.

Maybe Mint 18 is different ?

Re: Linux, should it carry a mental health warning!

What OS are you used to using ? I come from the days of Vic 20, Amiga,286 etc and running just about every OS that there was, and this version of Linux 19.1 and Ubuntu 18.4 is so easy to use compared to even 3 yrs ago that I am rarely using Window 10 now. Printers used to be a real pain to install I...

Re: Thunderbird misbehaving badly.

Have you tried Preferences/Account Settings/Synchronization & Storage/Message Synchronizing/Advanced to set what folders you want to be kept on your computer ?

Second question I don't have an answer, sorry

Re: Help With File Management

Drag and drop, moving and copying works fine if a little different to how you're used to doing it. The one thing I really miss in this respect is the ability to draw a select box with the mouse inside a folder to select a load of files together, but it's not a deal breaker! Piers. If you hold CTRL ...

Re: File manager that shows total size of subdirs in detail view?

In Nemo I click on Properties for the folder to get the size. I too find it annoying that it's not automatic when listing folders. I'm from the Amiga days and my choice of file managers has always been Directory Opus, works great in Windows but unfortunately they have no plans for a Linux port. I've...

Re: Thunderbird authentication

So what version of Tbird are you using ?

Like I said earlier, mine is 60.7.0 (64 bit)

You seem to be missing 2 items under that drop down menu, 0Auth2 and TLS Certificate, so looks like you have a different version.

I know Gmail requires 0Auth2, has for quite a while.
