Re: Mate vs Cinnamon

I agree with you majpooper When Gnome 2 bit the dust I went to the first alternative (forget what is was called) and then gravitated to Mate when it was released. I have installed Cinnamon on almost every version of Linux Mint but after playing with it and desperately trying to like it sufficiently ...

Re: favourite email client

Eventually the programmer of Messenger/Gemini commercialised it as MessengerPro and I gl...

Re: fresh install question

yes I regularly back up my documents to cloud ( microsoft office cloud in this case) Personally, I wouldn't go the cloud way. I value my independence too much. My preferred method would be to buy an external USB drive and format it as either ntfs if you are likely to deal with Microsoft files (Linu...

Using Linux Mint v19.2 MATE

I'm rather surprised nobody has mentioned Variety as a wallpaper changer. I have been using it for years, without any problems.

You can install it from either the Software Manger or Synaptic.

This presents a problem, inasmuch as I cannot find a way to increase the size of /dev/sda5 if I want to. And attempts to increase the size of the extended drive also f...

Using LM v19.2 Mate. I've been using Linux Mint since v3.0 Cassandra and when Gnom2 hit the dust changed to the pre-Mate DE and then to Mate and have remained with it ever since, other than a few attempts to adapt to Cinnamon, because it is so beautiful. One of the things I found very satisfying was...

One of the many reasons I use Osmo is the fact it has a Notes section. At present it has 47 separate notes, most related to computers. I have found it invaluable and ensure it is included in my backups.
