Re: can some1 pls help me get scroll buttons to work pls....?

Thank you. You can follow the directions that pybear gave to add the "scroll buttons" or you can follow these below. They do the exact same thing. BTW, since you are not the only one looking for this I have put these same directions in the tutorial section: https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php...

I've taken the info from the referenced threads, tested it, and add a tutorial -

how to add "scroll buttons" or "scroll arrows" to Office and Firefox

I created this to put all the info in one place without having to follow several threads, Those little arrows on the scroll bar that used to let you step a line at time have disappeared from most Linux apps. Been gone for awhile. This is how to add what some call "scroll buttons" others call "scroll...

Re: can some1 pls help me get scroll buttons to work pls....?

I tried about 6 or 8 themes looking for those "stepper" arrows. Even ones that came up when I searched on "stepper". No luck. To be realistic, it doesn't seem to be a popular feature missed by many. OR there would be lots of themes with it and it wouldn't be so hard to find info when searching forum...

Re: What is the right way to run Update Manager remotely?

Will do. I'll just keep using it until I go to 18.2 and then won't have to worry about it hopefully
Still happens in 18.2 I've even seen it when connecting to other non-Linux Mint systems, like Linux Lite

Re: can some1 pls help me get scroll buttons to work pls....?

Ah, perhaps you are talking about what are referred to as "steppers". And yes I can see where those could be helpful in some instances. Perhaps this has the info that you are looking for: https://askubuntu.com/questions/200938/question-about-gtkscrollbar-class-in-custom-themes Of course you will nee...

Re: can some1 pls help me get scroll buttons to work pls....?

OK, at first I thought you were complaining about the ability to use the scrollwheel on your mouse. But maybe not. So I looked on LibreOffice and did not see anything different there than on other apps like FireFox. So I do not know what you mean. I have never had a problem with scrolling working on...

Re: What is the right way to run Update Manager remotely?

I've seen that error message across the board when running GUI apps via SSH. Whether I use sudo or gksudo. When I first saw it, a while back, I searched the forums for an answer. Some claimed it was a known bug in Debian based Linux with GTK. But the general consensus was to not worry about it if th...

Re: Enforce password on startup

Apparently this changed with 18.2 because it uses LightDM rather than MDM
Oh yeah, forgot about that. Fortunately if you used the "auto" 18.1 to 18.2 update MDM was left in place.

Re: WIFI Problem Fixed Yet?

BTW, if you want detailed step by step installation instruction specific to your needs we should probably take it off this forum. Send me a PM and I'll be happy to help. I am also in my 60s. But I was in IT tech support for overt 30 years before retiring and have been playing with Linux on and off f...

Re: WIFI Problem Fixed Yet?

Let's start at the beginning. When you download an ISO you are not downloading the operating system, you are downloading a file that contains the operating system. That may sound like semantic gymnastics but it is an important distinction. Just like any static file, say a *jpg, or a *.doc, it does no...

Install minimal LXDE desktop

I originally added this to a very old thread just in case someone found it doing a search for LXDE desktop on Linux mint. Since the admins moved it to the Tutorials section I've edited it for clarity. If you have a very old machine the LXDE DE can make a real difference in the speed and responsivene...

Re: WIFI Problem Fixed Yet?

Personally I don't pay for Linux. lol. OK, sometimes I do, but that is on the direct donate page. As for bcripps - not sure what torrent software you use. Have you tried qBittortent? I like Transmission, not sure if it's still available for Wiindows.

Re: WIFI Problem Fixed Yet?

If you are saving the torrent directly to the USB you are adding another layer that can affect speed. I would suggest loading it directly to your hard drive. Personally I've never had problems creating a bootable ISO using Rufus on Windows. Although the first bootable Linux ISO that I created I used...

Re: [SOLVED] XFCE over Cinnamon install versus Linux Mint XFCE

is a similar explanation applicable to my situation? But why on 4 users but not on the main user? You may be having a similar, but reverse situation. Why only on the non-main users I am unsure. You may need to go through as each user and delete any config files as I described above. I do know that I...

Re: XFCE over Cinnamon install versus Linux Mint XFCE

If you just want to see what it looks and feels like you could always install a copy in VirtualBox. I install dozens of distros just to look at them, that way. I should have done that with 18.2 XCFE. Not sure why I didn't. I even installed a copy of the Beta 18.2 Cinnamon that way to be aware of the...

Re: XFCE over Cinnamon install versus Linux Mint XFCE

It may have been that you had some corrupted or missing XFCE files. I keep my /home on a separate partition so that if the root becomes corrupted or if I want to say install 18.2 Cinnamon over the top of 18.2 XFCE I can do it without losing any data files. However, a lot of program files live on /ho...
