Re: Power failure

I also leave my TV running 24/7 (with the sound turned down at night.) Running your computer 24/7 does not shorten it's life at all. All I can say Jim is you must have very cheap Electricity where you live...can't say the same for me...ours went up 20% last month because greedy power companies can ...

Re: Power failure

Power failure (Black-out) or PSU failure will not harm your computer because system settings are saved in CMOS...However a Power Surge will kill your computer stone dead. It's very important to have a Power Surge Protection Board because you never know when one will occur and are much cheaper than a...

Re: My experience with LM (1 month)

I have Cinnamon 18 running on my Laptop and 18.2 running on my Desktop computer without any problems and I'm a newbie...so maybe it's not Linux after all. Linux Mint is very user friendly and easy to use...it's far Superior to Windoze in many ways as I've found but it's not for everyone and since yo...

Re: VirtualBox

I've run VirtualBox in Windoze for years and now in Mint...it's so easy to use and has some great features that eliminate the need for Dual-Boot or partitions and does not interfear with the main OS. You can export your VM to an external HDD for safe keeping...this eliminates the need for re-install...

Re: Switching From Linux Mint 17.3 Rosa To Windows 8...

Sad to hear you want to go back to Windoze...I don't think you gave Mint a fair go. I gave Windoze the flick just over a year ago and never looked back...yes I've had a few problems and there's a bit of learning to do but you have this great Forum for help and advice...you can't loose. I did find Mi...

Re: viewing doc files from linux in windows

All you have to do is create your Document in Linux Mint and save it as...Microsoft Word 2007-2013 XML(.docx) and you're done...now you can open your Doc in both Mint and Windows. Microsoft is always the problem...you can open a Microsoft Doc in Mint...no problem but you can't open a Libre Office Do...

Re: ..Epson no longer

Stone the crows, bob466 , did you not read jimallyn 's post? He kindly provided the URLs for the Epson Linux drivers for both printing and scanning. All you have to do is to download the one for your system (32 bit or 64 bit). Download the .deb format and it will install with a double click of your...

Re: Windows wants to scan and fix my external hard drive that I mostly use with my Linux machine.

After using my Flash Drive or External HDD in Linux Mint and plug either into my Win 7 Virtual Machine I get the same message...just click "Continue without Scanning". This happens all the time and I know there's nothing wrong with either Drives...it's just some stupid Windows thing and li...

Re: Why Does Linux Create This Folder?

Thanks for the info guys...it's something I'll just have to get use to. I do have the Trash Bin on the Desktop which works like Windows but would never have known about the .Trash1000 Folder and I'm sure many other Newbies wouldn't either...I've found this folder on Flash Drives too.

Why Does Linux Create This Folder? [ Solved]

Went to add some files to my External HDD which is 2TB and got..."No more Space available" HDD is full. So I deleted about 800MB but still get HDD is full. By accident I clicked "Show Hidden Files" and there was a folder called ".Trash1000" when I opened this folder the...

Re: Disk drives in Linux Mint

This is needlessly complex. Attach the drive, boot the PC, run gparted and select the drive, and format it. Each drive is identified by vendor and size. Unless you have multiple identical drives, it's not an issue. And even if you were a bonehead, you can't unmount your root partition. Period. I wo...

Re: Moving files between Mint and win7

If you want to add a Share Folder between Host Mint and Guest Win 7...just open a Terminal and and type sudo usermod -a -G vboxsf "your user name" This is misleading and not helpful. Adding a user to the group vboxsf has to be done inside of the guest, but only in a Linux guest. This comm...
