Re: Computer beeps when started

Seems like there's nothing to be concerned about. That is not necessarily true. Did you read the link I gave you, and did you check what BIOS you have? I didn't write that...but one Beep is good. Yeah, I read it, and everything should be normal. The only thing I didn't get was why it didn't happen ...

Re: Virtual Box on Mint 17.1

I always download Virtual Box from their site and updates etc. Windoze XP is 3 years out of date and no longer supported...so don't go on line with it...you're asking for trouble. If I were you...download the software with your Windoze spyware 10 computer...then copy it to you're XP Virtual Machine ...

Re: Computer beeps when started

When you start your computer it preforms a test called POST...Power On Self Test. When complete and everything is OK you'll hear a single Beep...it has nothing to do with Linux...this may help...

Re: First time user Install 18.2 - Not Fun [SOLVED]

The dropdown list where you choose the location for the boot loader is at the bottom of the screen, just above the buttons [Quit] [Back] [Install Now]. An even easier way...only have the HDD that you want to install the OS plugged into the Motherboard...works every time. Years ago I tried to instal...

Re: MBR versus GPT partitions - how to manage them?

With MBR or GPT...it's very easy. If you're installing an internal HDD that's up to 2TB...set to MBR...if it's 3TB or more set to GPT. The reason is...MBR can only see up to 2TB...if you set a 3TB to MBR you will only be able to use 2TB...the rest of the HDD will be unaccessible. With External HDDs ...

Maybe this is your problem...not a good idea as you now know. I use External HDDs for storage as they were designed for.

Re: 1st go-round with Clonezilla... I have two questions

Well, I'll be... roll me over, lay me down and do it again... It most certainly works. I just backed up a Manjaro installation, wiped the SSD it was on and restored. The only drawback is that the device that the image is stored on must be formatted FAT32 or NTFS. It's even worth buying the commerci...

Re: 1st go-round with Clonezilla... I have two questions

Interesting. Does Macrium Reflect support restoring linux filesystem images? Yes it does...that's what I use it for. Not long ago I accidentally wiped my Mint 18.2 OS...I plugged in my External HDD...Booted to the Rescue Disk and Re-Imaged the HDD...took about 15mins. Make sure you tick the partiti...

Re: how do i delete linux mint

There are two ways that I would do it...

1. Install another OS over the top of the OS that's installed.

2. Remove the HDD and place it in a Docking Bay and plug into another computer...Mint choose...Format Disk...If Windoze use Diskpart.

I wish I could help you but I never Encrypt HDDs...it's too dangerous. If I must...it's much safer to create and Encrypt a Folder with 7 zip as long as I don't forget the Password.

Well let me put it this way...I wouldn't run anything with less than 4GB of Ram these days...but 16GB is much better. :D

Re: Help me installing Linux Mint - trying for the last 3 days!!!

Maybe you should try software like Etcher (Linux) or Rufus (Windoze) that will create a Bootable Flash Drive...I have used both and know they work. Installing Mint takes about 15/20 minutes tops...it's much easer than Windoze. When you come to the "Installation Type" window...make sure you tick "Era...

Re: USB Live with Persistence

I disagree completely. I have a USB 3 flash installation that I take with me when I go away, and it's very fast. I've created a Flash Drive with Persistence with a Sandisk and Lexar both USB 3 and 16GB with Cinnamon and Mate...both had 10GB of free space. Both booted to the Desktop just fine...but ...

Re: PAE notification when trying to install Mint

I'm no expert but when I looked up your Laptop specs...

Toshiba M35 Review Unit Specs
Mobile Intel Celeron M processor 330 (1.40 GHz)
256MB 333 MHz RAM
40GB 4200 RPM hard drive (31.74 actual format)

I think it's time to buy a new computer...the minimum Ram these days is 4GB.

Re: Can't get past grub / only black screen

Since the OP can't boot into Mint with a Bootable Flash Drive...I would be trying To Boot from a Disk...yes I know Op doesn't have an Optical Drive...but I would borrow a Portable DVD Drive or go to a computer shop and say I'm thinking of buying an Portable DVD Drive and I want to see if I can Boot ...

Re: USB Live with Persistence

If you have a Windoze partition or Windoze VM...Linux Live USB Creator will create a Flash Drive with persistence...but don't get too excited as they are slow and IMO not worth the trouble...even with a USB 3 Flash Drive. :(
