Re: I cannot get updates anymore

Run this command in Terminal (Press. Ctrl + Alt + T to open Terminal):

Code: Select all

 sudo rm /usr/share/python3/runtime.d/hplip-data.rtupdate
If that doesn't work, you may find help in this post:

Re: issue with update of Adobe Flash

Interesting, I guess that's about as far as we can take this then, unless someone swoops in with a solution. As said, best you can do is use their html5, a different browser or upgrade Mint to a newer version. redlined, I just went back to that old thread too, hoped that fix would work here, but no ...

Re: issue with update of Adobe Flash

Well, I'm starting to wonder if this is a Mint 17.3 issue. In any case, this worked for someone in another thread, so might be worth a try: Run these commands, then Reboot:

apt purge adobe-flashplugin
apt clean
apt update
apt install adobe-flashplugin

Re: issue with update of Adobe Flash

To all,

I just got the update for flash 32.0.0.142. You should get it & take it & see if that solves anything.

Re: issue with update of Adobe Flash

I wouldn't mess with that. Flash works fine for me on Jigidi with Firefox. Does flash work for you anywhere else? See if it works here:

Re: issue with update of Adobe Flash

That's strange, does about:plugins say that flash is Enabled? Try resetting it in Add-Ons from Always Activate to Ask to Activate & back again.

Re: issue with update of Adobe Flash

Go to Firefox plugins (Menu, Add-On's, Plugins) & be sure that Flash says 'Always Activate' or 'Ask to Activate' (your choice), NOT 'Never Activate'. Reboot Firefox & it should work (fingers crossed).

Re: issue with update of Adobe Flash

OK, after the get update command ran I hit Y. It finished, and I ran the sudo apt-get install adobe-flashplugin adobe-flash-properties-gtk command. That finished, but did not end with any message that seemed to me to be informing me that it did anything about Flash. The last line (of many) on the T...

Possible yes (see my previous post), whether it will fix the problem, I dunno. Answer Karl's questions & wait for his next post.

Re: issue with update of Adobe Flash

If that's the result of entering sudo apt-get update, then yes, hit Y. If that finishes with no problem, enter the next command:
sudo apt-get install adobe-flashplugin adobe-flash-properties-gtk

Re: Software Manager

You might try the solution here, can't say if it will work though:
https://www.linuxquestions.org/question ... ry-786039/

Edit:

Maybe remove & reinstall Software Manager:

sudo apt remove --purge mintinstall

sudo apt install mintinstall

mintinstall

It may just be you could use some new thermal paste on the cpu/gpu, maybe clean fan & heat sink too.
Okay, I'll try it if I can't find a soft solution. Thanks. :)
Just a heads up, if your laptop is still under warranty, have MSI do it. If you open it up yourself, it will void the warranty.

Re: issue with update of Adobe Flash

Best to copy & paste the commands so you get them correct. If you type, type them exactly including the spaces.

Re: issue with update of Adobe Flash

Jigidi should show a 'Click to enable Adobe Flash Player' option. Just click that, then click 'Allow' to run flash.

Re: Fans do not work at all

It may simply be that the fans need a good cleaning. They can get blocked up with dust, etc. and the heat sink as well. If so, take it for repair or do it yourself:

Re: FANS DO NOT WORK AT ALL

Seems to me this may be the problem:
FAILED: nvidia unloaded: modesetting, vesa resolution: 1920x1080~77Hz

I'd only be guessing at how to fix, so wait for others to post.
