Re: 1st go-round with Clonezilla... I have two questions

I don't mind the topic diversion to my thread (h/w solution is an interesting possibility!), but I would be grateful if someone would address #2 in my previous post... Every time my system reboots, any connected USB sticks are no longer mounted. I have to remove and reinsert to mount. I found an int...

Re: "operation not supported" error, can't copy files to new partition!

Thanks! Yup, that worked. So is there a way to set this up so it works automatically after reboot? I haven't learned how to set up a script (like old DOS .bat files). Maybe it's time I learned?

"operation not supported" error, can't copy files to new partition!

I created a 30GB data partition on my SSD. Upon reboot, the new partition was not mounted, so I looked up the UUID: sudo blkid Then I added the following line to fstab (as per: https://community.linuxmint.com/tutorial/view/1513)... UUID=1e587ed8-1c2e-4843-a1d2-7ddfaca6c3e0 /media/Plex ext4 rw,suid,d...

Re: 1st go-round with Clonezilla... I have two questions

Thanks for all the replies! My destination HDD is plenty big enough (3TB). I set the partition size to 30GB temporarily because my USB drive happened to have 30GB of unallocated space. I am guessing that you are getting caught by a pre-processing step that first makes sure the destination is bigger ...

Re: need assistance installing Plex Media Server

Don't anyone snicker... My trusty (or should I say crusty, but definitely not rusty) XP machine, custom built in 2008 with then-2-year-old hardware, still kicks ass for pretty much everything I need to do... except browsing, and occasionally, Plex. I tweaked 'er out years ago. She has only 18 proces...

Re: 1st go-round with Clonezilla... I have two questions

Thanks for your reply. I think I have seen that tutorial before. It's a good tutorial, but it doesn't solve my problem. Like the option description I checked, the tutorial implies that a partition backup doesn't image the empty space. Is this correct? I recall reading another thread here where someo...

1st go-round with Clonezilla... I have two questions

I managed to boot Clonezilla Live via USB stick and navigated through the maze of multiple-choice questions. Quite the incentive to learn the command line method ;-) For my first full backup, I will make separate image files of sda1, sda2 and sda3 (sda1 is the tiny "EFI System" partition at front of...

Re: new to Linux, a couple of issues with LO Calc

After creating the comment, right click it and select Show Comment, then click the comment to show the resize handles. After more than a decade using Excel, I'm familiar with how to do this. What I'm saying is that OfficeLibre Calc doesn't have handles on the comment box, at least not on my machine...

Re: need assistance installing Plex Media Server

System monitor has an option to show all users I believe. It should display processes by plex user. So it does! I didn't notice the options menu icon. Thanks! Btw, Plex only transcodes when playing in a browser like chrome. That's not true for the version I've been running on my XP machine (0.9.9.1...

new to Linux, a couple of issues with LO Calc

I'm happy to have LibreOffice Calc on my new Linux machine. For the most part, any transition pains have mostly been because I'm running an old version of Excel (2003) on my XP machine. That said, I have a couple of issues I'm hoping can be resolved: 1) There's no apparent way to resize comment edit...

Re: need assistance installing Plex Media Server

Plex... minimal resources? I realize my new machine (7700K) is much more powerful than my 9-year old XP machine (Opteron 185), but it typically runs at 100% both cores when transcoding a movie (transcoding isn't just a memory hog!). I was anxious to see how that compares on my new machine. During vi...

Re: need assistance installing Plex Media Server

Thanks, but I'm not having problems viewing Plex videos on my playback devices. I've been doing that for years, so I know how to set them up for the new server. What I don't understand is how a playback device can play a video served by PMS when I reboot and never even start the process. So I figure...

Re: LM distro includes outdated and unused Chromium config

Mine was also full install, as this is a new machine. If Pjotr upgraded, that probably explains why he doesn't have it.

Re: need assistance installing Plex Media Server

I suspect part of the problem is that this program isn't properlly maintained. The program is heavily maintained and has a very large user-base, many of whom are running Linux media servers. Maybe they just forgot to update the package selector table. Or perhaps the current version works with all d...

Re: LM distro includes outdated and unused Chromium config

Possibly some Mint theming for Cinnamon, in case you install Chromium? I don't have it in my 18.2 Xfce. According to the bug report , these files are outdated. I only saw that report just before I posted my question. In hindsight, the report makes it clear that the files should be deleted. The repo...

Re: 52,457 icons?!

Space isn't an issue for me, not sure why I even mentioned 205MB. But I'm thinking that partition-wide file searches are slowed by a large number of files. In any case, I'm struggling to understand why an OS would need 52k icon files :o

52,457 icons?!

I noticed there's a folder /usr/share/icons/ with over 52k files, 205MB. That seems a bit crazy. Is there a way to prune the contents this folder? Surely all those files are not needed...?

Re: need assistance installing Plex Media Server

When you get to the part where you choose your distro/architecture, are you right -clicking instead of left-clicking? Had I right-clicked, the "open or save" dialogue box wouldn't have opened. Anyway, I clicked Save File, not Open with. For grins, I tried the "Open With" option... First I had to ch...

Re: need assistance installing Plex Media Server

I'll post this question in the Plex forum if no replies, but when I launch Plex Media Server, it opens a browser window, but apparently doesn't launch any processes (nothing 'plex' in System Monitor / Processes). I'm befuddled because my Roku can access the server and play a test video I just instal...
