Did you type the commands I gave in my first reply exactly as I wrote them AFTER installing myspell-en-us? to install something you don't just type its name you have to use a package manager, often apt-get. Mint has a problem with mp3 players made by Creative and it's there's always a chance that it will recognise it one day but not the next. Even if it is recognised, any music transfers may be unsuccessful. Gnomad2 is a program which seems to help with recognition and makes transfers more reliable. I...

If your player is made by Creative (or even if it isn't) you could try installing Gnomad2 via the software centre or Synaptic and see if it recognises it. [Hi iironjade. I'm also having the exact same problem - seemed to start last week, so maybe related to a software update? Before then it was fine. Yesterday I had to bomb it out (holding power button - not ideal). When I log off and click on shutdown, it go's to user logo screen it wont turn off from their either. The only way to turn it off is to hold power button down and do a crash stop.
