Re: External hard drive files corrupted

Ok I followed the instructions, I think it installed, but don't know what to except next, does it just change the file browser from Cinnamon to xfe file browser, and no more. "Just install it and type 'xfe' in a terminal if it's not in a menu." Your regular file browser will continue to act as it a...

Re: External hard drive files corrupted

Hi Andow, I think I know what your problem is...you don't have enough space on your 125GB SSD to run two OSes....let me explain. I have a 500GB HDD...after Formatting I now have 483GBs. Add Mint Cinnamon 18.2... some extra software etc 62GB...then add a Win 7 VM and give it 35GB...I also have two R...

Re: External hard drive files corrupted

Hi Andow, It might be a File transfer problem with Duel-Boot but that's just a guess because I've never used Duel-Boot in Windoze or Linux. I've never seen the need to Duel-Boot when there's Virtual Box. I have a Win 7 Virtual Machine (not connected to the Net) and File transfer is easy without pro...

Re: External hard drive files corrupted

I run Cinnamon 18.2 and transfer small and large files to External HDDs without any problems. Some External HDDs are MBR and Some GPT...I also transfer files using Flash Drives either Fat32 or NTFS...all work again without problems...so it's not Cinnamon. Maybe it's your computer...I wish I could h...

Re: External hard drive files corrupted

There is really no problem with Cinnamon. Yes there is. I see "file copy problems" here quite often and it's always - or almost always - Mint 18.x Cinnamon. Not Mint 17.x and not any other DE. Ok I followed the instructions, I think it installed, but don't know what to except next, does it just cha...

Re: External hard drive files corrupted

Operating system is Linux Mint 18.1 Serena Cinnamon 64 bit. Regards. Andow Mint 18.x and Cinnamon - or at least its file browser - often have problems. Try "xfe" file browser for copying, especially to USB, or don't use Cinnamon. The issue occurred when moving a cluster of files to an external driv...

Re: External hard drive files corrupted

"file system becomes corrupted, files names become jumbled" An OS defect is not number-one on my list... o Power to the drive is 'limp'. Detachable hard disks should be connected one per USB hub. My Dell monitor has an independent USB2 hub and that works very well, power for 4 devices is all availa...

Re: External hard drive files corrupted

Never ever remove an mounted disk without unmounting it. Unmounting flushes outstanding I/O. see man umount. Without umount there is no guarantee that all pending I/O is done already. sudo fsck /dev/ sdXY - replace XY with drive and partition number to checl OR Install gparted (if not already done)...

Re: Anybody installed Mint on Lenovo 100 S ? What do you think?

Well, I have a Lenovo Ideapad 100s with 4GB Ram 128GB SSD, I'm running a duel system W10 with Linux Mint Cinnamon. No I would not recommend it since it crashes a couple of times a day, spell-checkers do not work yet,but Its still work in progress. All the best in your quest.
