hi and thanks for the reply,
I did the exact same commands, i did update. the only diff i see is i ask for the 2.79 version were as you didnt. no idea why it would have made a difference. how do i purge / remove the broken packages ? i just want to clean up this mess and try again.

i opened my synaptic package manager and typed "wordnet"...i got several hits . electronic lexical database of English language was the first in the list. im running linux mint 18.1 also. maybe do an apt-get update ? its there for me.

Umm..ya i kinda get thats how it works, but my question is "Should i not use that device". is it going to affect anything? is there a general rule for using or not using two devices at once? or rather having them active? its a simple question...

UPDATE: took my pc into the local shop. I know the guy who owns it well for years and he did some testing for me. Mother board passed , no issues. Video passed , no issues. Ram passed , no issues. have checked all cables and connections. ruled our monitor with another that runs on my wife's windows machine. im posting on her pc now as i cant get my linux box to load anything :(

found this : EVGA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti SC GAMING, 4GB GDDR5, DX12 OSD Support (PXOC) Graphics Card 04G-P4-6253-KR . Mint has support for it and its in my price range. i think will do everything i need . anyone had any issues with this card ? thanks for the feed back, will def go with nvida .
