Re: inxi version

The described problem with inxi is true for a number of programs. And keeping old versions with arguing of "stability" is simply wrong. In years I have never encountered instability because I use for several programs not the repository version, but the build from the authors (like Mozilla programs,...

Re: Linux Mint 18.2 “Sonya” KDE – BETA Release

I only recently tried out KDE on Mint. This is a very nice distro with beatiful font rendering and great visual consistency. Well done! Really tempted to use this LTS Plasma version over some other distros for my Plasma fix.

Re: Linux Mint Keylogger

Wanting to make sure your children are not falling prey to online predators seems like a pretty legitimate reason to use a Keylogger..... on your family computer . I don't think I agree. So you spy on your family so you can pick up a potential security threat one day. Would it not be better to educ...

Re: inxi version

hmmm wondering if manually installing the new DEB package against the repo choice would be too risky. I doubt it can break anything significantly

Re: Laptop freezes when unplugging a lan cable while on battery.

Hi there. Very hard to say whether it is a software or hardware issue. You havent even told us what version of Mint you are using.

You could run a different distro as live and see whether the same problem persists. If so it might be hardware related.

Re: can I change root password

I only ever changed my root password once and that was because I had mistakenly captured it with CAPS lock and the thought of it somehow annoyed me. Other than that it is not good Linux practice to do things as root, especially not on a production system

Re: Frame drops on Intel Haswell + cinnamon

I am not sure if anyone will be able to give you a proper answer on this. But I doubt you are comparing apples with apples. You comparing different distros with completely different default kernels, effect settings, Wayland, was it tested live or with latest update, was the Kernel modified, were the...

To make sure the kids are doing their homework? I think if this is about monitoring the family trust and communication is probably the best solution

Not sure if I am fully following the issue. Are the USB ports not working at all or is it just the hub that's not working?

Re: Brightness keys on Macbook Air

Can you please clarify what version of Mint you are using & can you go to a terminal and type inxi and paste the results here...This way it will be much easier to help. Right now the background info is missing.

Re: Firefox stalling & crash

Can you also post your system output here. Can you pen a terminal, type inxi and paste the output here?

It seems like your software versions are very old. 4.4.0.21 is a very old Kernel version. Hope this doesn't sound silly but is your system fully up to date?

Great, agree its a bit confusing that all drivers are in the zip file. Just extract both tar files and see which one works :)

Re: Every time Firefox updates, the default search engine reverts to Yahoo. I want to stick with Google

Maybe also to add, it is important to also change the default search engine in the "preferences tab". Only choosing the search engine through the magnifying glass will result in Firefox reverting to the default after reboot.

Re: Uninstallable KDE?

In your case its a missing ppa because it is referring to a package not available in the current repositories. It's not a rule of thumb to not run multiple DEs at the same time. I have done it before without major issues. I just don't do it probably for psychological reasons of wanting a clean parti...

Re: Mint 17.3 Cinnamon screen glitching and crashing

Am I seeing correctly that you have a Skylake machine? Even Kernel 4.4 is not right for that CPU. You should give 18.2 Beta a try as it is pretty final and stable. I wouldn't bother at all with 17.3. Also as mentioned I would only install the recommended HW Kernels. So I would install 18.2 and then ...

So if you follow these exact steps, does it not work? The Macbook Pro uses a Broadcom wireless chipset. To connect to the Internet, we need to install its driver. From the menu, run Administration -> Driver Manager The Driver Manager warns that it cannot install drivers... (because we're offline) Pl...
