Re: Attempting Reinstall grub2 from Live (CD or USB) ridiculously failing

In the instructions you referenced, this line you typed mint ~ # sudo grub-install --root-directory=/mnt/ /dev/sda5 should be mint ~ # sudo grub-install --root-directory=/mnt/ /dev/sda (without the 5 on the end.)

Re: Upgrading Alsa/DKMS Error

Hi Alexvar. What output do you get from sudo alsa force-reload if any? After running that, run the alsa script again to see if the "Loaded ALSA modules" section is no longer empty. Just a warning now. People have been having problems with a pulseaudio update this week, so if you do any updates, unch...

Re: using MultiBootUSB

For what it's worth, the one time I used multisystem, I also had a heck of a time figuring out what was going on. I don't remember exactly what was happening but found out the secret for me was patience. I thought it was doing nothing when it should be doing something, and found out if I just leave ...

First revision posted. Thanks all for your input! Let me know if you spot any errors or if there are any disagreements with the above (I guessed on a couple things.) If this topic should be moved I have no problem with that (my thinking was this is a software/application subject.) I don't mind keepi...

Thank you. But I must say, your effort here was way over the top! I was following along early when you had another huge thread going at the same time and was quite amazed how you kept coming back with more to try.

Re: Intel sunrise point-h hd audio not working

Hi Alexvar! I found that script myself over the weekend, but I didn't see a way to make it help in your case after all we'd been through. I had hoped the sudo modprobe would've produced an output, which in turn would've changed the output of that script most likely, but no such luck. Once again, goo...

What NOT to install from the repositories (Mint 18.x)

After finding out I shouldn't be using KeePassX anymore as per xenopeek's post here: https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?p=1461556#p1461556 I wondered what else I have installed that is probably not a good idea to keep using. For that matter, what should I not even consider installing in the ...

So glad you're fixed! To mark as solved, go waaaay back to your first post (if you can find it,) and click on the pencil icon and edit the subject line there. :D

Re: [Not Quite Resolved] KeePass question

Yes Cosmo. I understand one can't write to anothers database. I just wanted to be sure XC could read (import really) X's database so I can get more current.

Thanks to all who replied. Later tonight I might start a new thread on the software we shouldn't install.

Re: KeePass question

KeePassX (website: https://www.keepassx.org/) was created as a native Linux port of KeePass2, without use of Mono libraries. Unfortunately development discontinued somewhere around 2016 so it's lagging behind KeePass2 and it's probably no longer safe to use. You should not use KeePassX anywhere! We...

Re: Intel sunrise point-h hd audio not working

Okay. Unless someone else can offer something new, I have only one more idea. I want to warn you that I don't know that this will work , and it is rather involved, but I leave it up to you to decide. I think I got a bit of a handle on the dkms thing. Poorly stated, as I understand it, it allow you t...

Re: Cloudbook

I managed to add the noapic parameter and it seemed to help. I then tried to follow the instructions on the first of the pages suggested by Michael above to make the noapic option permanent, but when I in a terminal I typed "sudo gedit /etc/default/grub" and put in my password, I got the messaged "...

If no to Pjotr's question, delete everything in /home/mrichter/.config/pulse/ then reboot and test.

Re: Upgrading Alsa/DKMS Error

Okay, I think I've figured it out. In the .deb, there is a dkms.conf file with this line: BUILD_EXCLUSIVE_KERNEL="^4.4.*" and Alexvar is using 4.13 I don't understand why it is limited to the 4.4 series kernels, and I don't know how (or if it should even be attempted) to alter the line and repackage...

Re: Intel sunrise point-h hd audio not working

Hi Alexvar. In further searching I found something you may want to try. If find /lib/modules/`uname -r` | grep snd doesn't return a huge list of items, then sudo apt-get install linux-restricted-modules-`uname -r` linux-generic followed by a reboot might fix the sound without having to update the al...

Re: Upgrading Alsa/DKMS Error

The package is the latest alsa driver for HDA Intel from following these instructions: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Audio/UpgradingAlsa/DKMS The error is confusing in that it implies his specs don't match. I think what it is saying is dkms.conf has different specs in it, but I don't know where/how to che...

Re: Intel sunrise point-h hd audio not working

I wouldn't mark this as solved just yet. I did a lot of searching but I just don't understand that DKMS stuff. However, I did look at the build logs for those files that were downloaded and saw that the 4.4.0-119 kernel appears in them. I wonder if using that kernel would take care of this (I'm not ...
