Re: How to update Libre

I do not say, that you shall not update. But you shall do it with the update manager. Yes, that is true, but the difference in the versions available was significant. That would seem to open a security threat/hole. But as I said previously, I do not understand Linux, so I could be off true. You don...

Re: How to update Libre

If you don't mind to reinstall, it is your decision. If you advice a dangerous - and superfluous - command, than this is beyond your decision. I accept your point, but by not updating do you not open yourself up to external threats? If I were using Windows I would expect that to be the case, but as...

Re: How to update Libre

LO 5.3.x will most likely never appear in the official repositories. So you have either to add a matching PPA or download the file and install it. sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade A very dangerous advice, as it circumvents the safety of the level system of the update manager. Don't ...

Re: How to update Libre

Thank you, it worked. I am new to linux and mint. What is the usual practice in regard to update of programs by most people? Do they usually wait until the updates are in the Software Center of Mint to do updates? Is there any problem with updating ahead of the time the update would be in the Softw...

Re: Wine and Amlogic's USB Burning Tool

I just did what I usually suggest for these things, searched "linux wine Amlogic USB Burning Tool":. Got exactly 4 hits, one of which was this thrtead, none of which linked to the WIne app database. Which is what you're looking for with Wine. Why don't you try the WIne forums? I don't think you'll ...

Re: SOLVED: Why I hate upgrades - Unetbootin won't create 18.2 USB

The USB Image Writer in Mint works very well though. It works ok, but it was designed for installing Mint on a HDD, so it stops on shutdown for you to eject the boot media and you have to hit <Return> to continue the shutdown. UNetbootin installs a system that starts up and shuts down completely wi...

Wine and Amlogic's USB Burning Tool

Anyone know if Wine will work with Amlogic's USB Burning Tool. I need to burn an image to an Android TV box quite soon, and that program runs under Windows only. It does load up BUT it will not install the driver, just wondering if that will be picked up by Wine. If it doesn't it won't detect my TV ...

Re: SOLVED: Why I hate upgrades - Unetbootin won't create 18.2 USB

The type of flash disk can affect it. I tried a Kingston brand version for quite a time, then tried a cheap 4gb knock off and that worked beautifully. Unetbootin failed for me in Linux but in Windows it succeeded. The USB Image Writer in Mint works very well though. That is what I use now.

[Solved]invalid setting ipv4 settings:ipv4.routes:1.route cannot be a default route

Hi, messing around trying to set up OpenVpn from my Mint MATE "Sonya" 64 Bit desktop by using the edit connections/network manager. Trying the "import a saved VPN configuration" option. Basically just importing a file from the set downloaded from my VPN provider. This seemed to correctly fill in the...

Re: Bluetooth turns itself on and disconnects WiFi

Surprisingly the driver for the external NIC installed with the system at install. I usually go to https://sites.google.com/site/easylinuxtipsproject/reserve-7#TOC-Realtek-RTL8192EU-chipset-0bda:818b- and install from there. But as I said, this time that was unnecessary. The WiFi connection is now s...

Re: Bluetooth turns itself on and disconnects WiFi

I am using Ethernet at the moment, I don't know if that would alter the output above. But WiFi is intolerable as it will insist on randomly disconnecting when Bluetooth pops up, which as I said, does so under a will of its own.

Re: Fingerprint GUI in Sonya 64 Bit MATE

Fixed it. It turned out the USB flash drive was read only, for some reason, so I followed the technique outlined by pyrus, here.

[UnSolved]Bluetooth turns itself on and disconnects WiFi

Hi, I am using "Sonya" 64 BIT with MATE desktop on an old Thinkpad X61s and Bluetooth is causing me a headache. It will insist on turning itself on, whatever I do to try and prevent it, and when it does my WiFi connection goes down, and then WiFi is unavailable. The same behaviour was seen in the la...

[Solved]Fingerprint GUI in Sonya 64 Bit MATE

Hello, I have installed "Fingerprint GUI" on Linux Mint "Sonya" 64 Bit MATE on a Thinkpad X61s and it doesn't seem to be working 100%. Everything works, apart from the Login Screen, but the set up simply refuses to allow me to save the password to a USB flash drive. Instead, it spits out an error sa...
