Re: [SOLVED]Using external antenna on router

seems to spec out good for you, with the 1,000 milliWatt TX it ought to help you out. Yeah I think the Dbi can be increased by swapping the 2.4 and 5G antennae. Although that would probably make it directional or extremely directional, which is fine, if there is only one client and you know the dir...

Re: Obtaining WiFi card capable of manipulation.

Cheers for the reply. I am aware that on some WiFi cards it may be possible to change the Reg Domain via iw but that doesn't work if the card is locked, as mine is to GB. What I am looking for is a good powerful adapter that allows change. It is a bit irresponsible to sell an adapter that is commonl...

[SOLVED]Obtaining WiFi card capable of manipulation.

Does anyone know if there exists a WiFi adapter that is open to manipulation, so not locked to a specific Reg Domain and can be reliably changed. It must also be a powerful beast in itself also. Potentially I would want to use this while travelling so not to fall foul of differing national regulatio...

Re: Using external antenna on router

Thanks but the network I want to set up involves too much distance for that solution I think. We are talking separate buildings. I think a point to point network would work but I lack a router capable of transmitting a powerful enough signal and also have no option of adding a more powerful externa...

Re: Using external antenna on router

You might want to consider a wireless Ethernet bridge: https://sites.google.com/site/easylinuxtipsproject/second-router#TOC-Second-router-as-wireless-ethernet-bridge-connection-between-the-two-routers-is-wireless- (item 2, right column) Thanks but the network I want to set up involves too much dist...

Re: Using external antenna on router

Probably not. Try to improve its signal like this: https://sites.google.com/site/easylinuxtipsproject/amplify-signal I have asked in the DD-WRT forum. It might just be a matter of adding the driver for the Alfa card. It is quite inhospitable so I may not receive a response. I am looking to set up a...

I think I'll give it shot. Don't like the path Mozilla is heading lately
Good. You have to install the plugins too which can all be found in the Mint "software manager".

[SOLVED]Using external antenna on router

I have a router a Netgear WNDR3700 V4 and it has no external aerial, or apparent capability of hosting one. It does though have a USB port. I was wondering if it is possible to plug in a Alfa network card into that port and then attach an external antenna to the Alfa?

I have now managed to get the program to run but I don't know how stable it will be because I was unable to complete the instructions.

Re: Problem installing LiveSuit_For_Linux

I have a feeling Firejail is involved in blocking this command somehow. Of course I could be wrong.

cp awusb.ko /lib/modules/`uname -r`/kernel/
depmod -a
modprobe awusb

Re: Problem installing LiveSuit_For_Linux

I see thanks for that but I had located it by revealing hidden files in that directory. Trying to execute following command but receiving permission denied.

cp awusb.ko /lib/modules/`uname -r`/kernel/
depmod -a
modprobe awusb

Problem installing LiveSuit_For_Linux

I am having problems installing LiveSuit_For_Linux. For some reason the command sudo ./LiveSuit.run will not work and this is the only command the help section gives. I get sudo: LiveSuit.run: command not found when I try it. There are also other commands that probably will not work either. I'd appr...

Locked Regulatory Domain on adapter.

I have an Alfa network WiFi adapter and it comes locked to the UK regulatory domain. I'd like the ability to change that and I have read some people have managed, I was wondering if that's true and can it really be altered. I don't really want to have to mess up my system finding out if the answer c...

Re: Disable onboard wireless to use external antenna?

I've been researching this subject for my own reasons and many people are raving about "turbo-tenna". Though I have found others that rate the Alfa network cards with a custom Yagi. If you want something 'good' you are probably going to have to pay more than you want though. Youtube has some very in...

Looks like I am going to try a USB Yagi antennae, unless I see or hear of anything better. I may need to relocate.
