Re: Cannot find Software Manager

Termy, what version LM are you running?

I am running LM, Cinnamon 18.3 and it is slightly different than what you show. It has the Software Manager icon under Firefox and then the Systems Settings under it.

Check it out here:

Re: Cannot find Software Manager

In Cinnamon, you should see it from the Menu display.

Click on the green Mint menu logo on bottom left of screen.

When menu appears, click on the brown icon that is below the Firefox icon. That's icon for SM.

If you've never opened it up to clean it, this will give you an idea of what's involved and the "stuff" that can be found inside when cleaning one.

Re: Black Video after boot in a Lenovo V110 after Mint 18.1 64 bit MATE successful installation

I found this website helpful when I was running LM 18 MATE..

https://sites.google.com/site/easylinux ... mate-first

For installing drivers, go to:
1.3 Drivers and full multimedia support

Linux Mint 18.2 began freezing up after install

Here's what happened after I installed LM 18.2 Cinnamon on another desktop I have (Dell Inspiron 531) just a few days ago. After the initial install and updates were done, including new drivers, it booted up ok. After a few minutes, after left unattended, it would freeze up......tried Ctrl-Alt-F1 bu...

Re: How to have VPN connection establish at startup?

I'm running Linux mint 18.2 Cinnamon..... with VPN Gate installed. To establish that VPN connects at startup, I have to: 1. Click on my network icon. 2. Click on Network Connections. 3. Highlight my connection under Ethernet (in my case it's Wired connection 1..... but could be wireless, etc) That a...

Re: VPN

I am looking at VPN Gate and this has me confused. On the VPN Gate FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) webpage they say that recording log files is left up to the servers' individual logging policy (19th question down) . And that you can see their policy on the servers' list page. I don't see that. Do ...

Re: Synaptic Package Manager not launching

I did try to uninstall from the Terminal and got synaptic not found. Then I clicked back on the the Software Manager screen and there was no change.... still stuck at 98%. Then I started to click on the Mint menu and it was not functioning. During my web searches prior to this point I did come acros...

Re: Synaptic Package Manager not launching

I went to Software Manager and did an uninstall of Synaptic. The uninstall started and then hung at 98%. I knew then that things looked grim. I went to Terminal and tried to uninstall there. To make a long story short, I wound up loosing access to Menu start. So that was it, and I re-installed Linux...

I've tried to launch Synaptic Package Manager but it wont launch.
Should I uninstall and install?

As always, thanks for your suggestions.

Re: Mint 18 MATE customize time and date

After much digging around, I found it using dconf Editor. 1. In dconf Editor go to /org/mate/panel/objects/clock/prefs 2. In custom-format key in what you want (e.g., %A %B %d, %Y %I:%M p) and hit enter 3. In format key in custom and hit enter The customize date and time will appear immediately on b...

Re: Mint 18 MATE customize time and date

On Mate there's no Properties on the rt click, instead it's Preferences, and that takes you to Clock Preferences where it's all just defined options with no way to individually customize from that direction. Thanks.

[SOLVED] Mint 18 MATE customize time and date

I can't seem to find a way to customize my date and time display. I used to do this on other distros via the dconf-editor (com -> canonical -> indicator -> datetime) which would get me to clock format where I could make entries like %A %b%d etc.... Now there is no indicator. Any other way to customi...

Re: Can't do installs from Update Manager in MATE

That's what I want to do on my next machine. But I'm going to have to wait a while longer while I still tinker with this trusty 2GB RAM, 2007 Compaq desktop. But yes, Virtual Box is something I plan on installing in the future. I have to say though ,that LM 18.2 has been running fine on this box.......

Re: Can't do installs from Update Manager in Mate

Thanks. I agree that when you find the DE you like, it's best to go with a clean install of Mint with the one you prefer. So far, except for this one glitch, it hasn't been bad though, and I've been back and forth between MATE and Cinnamon a few times now. But still comparing. When I settle on one, ...

Can't do installs from Update Manager in MATE

Hi all, I installed Linux Mint Cinnamon 18.2. Then I installed Mate via terminal. All is good, and I can switch back and forth to become better familiar with the two desktops. I have found that when I am in Mate, I can click on the Update Manager (UM) and see updates that are available. But when I t...

Re: Why does screen / display go black on rare occasions ?

You're welcome. I thought the same thing after reading your last post about not making a difference. I had a 19 in. Syncmaster 940N awhile back. I don't know if it cut off early because I usually have the monitors go into screensaver after 5 minutes. But it may have and I just didn't notice it. Anyw...
