Re: Why does screen / display go black on rare occasions ?

But don't you agree that it is sort of strange to have a check box IF it is impossible to use that check box to turn off the function that it is related to ? Is this perhaps just another example of poor software design ? I dont have Compiz installed. I have 'Marco' and 'Marco composting.' They both...

Re: Why does screen / display go black on rare occasions ?

I think the reason you can't disable "software compositing" in Compiz is because, by design, Compiz is a compositing window manager. So what you get with Compiz is software compositing which is enabled automatically and cannot be disabled because it cannot run otherwise. https://en.wikipedia.org/wik...

It doesn't sound like we are talking about the same "Windows" choice. Here's where I was suggesting you go to click on Windows (on the left)... https://ixquick-proxy.com/do/spg/show_picture.pl?l=english&rais=1&oiu=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.dedoimedo.com%2Fimages%2Fcomputers_years%2F2012_1%2Fmint-13-mate-desk...

Re: Why does screen / display go black on rare occasions ?

If you click on Start > Preferences > Desktop Settings then click on Windows (on the left), what does the Windows Manager show? If it's COMPIZ, you should be able to dropdown and select Marco or Marco + Compositing. My desktop is running Marco + Compositing. I'm running LM Mate 18 Cinnamon w/ Mate i...

[SOLVED]Re: GParted not launching

Thanks again Joe. I think we've got enough good information on this thread now that I can go ahead and close it............ unless someone else has something they want to add to it. Sooner or later I will be trying GParted Live. :)

Re: GParted not launching

Thanks again.

Thinking back on what I did last week, I may have installed GParted on Cinnamon. I'm not sure now that GParted comes installed on it. :?

What are other options that can be used to alter partitions on Mint..... and must they all be live too?

Re: GParted not launching

Good info. Thanks Joe... and thanks everybody for contributing. I just flipped over to Cinnamon (my primary on this pc) and see that GParted came installed and launches ok on it. But when you try to use it, it all ends at the resize window and it doesn't allow me to resize (unless I'm doing somethin...

[SOLVED] GParted not launching

Linux Mint 18.2, Mate 1.18.0

GParted was installed via the Software Manager.

When I try to launch it from Menu, nothing happens.

The only way I can start it is via command from terminal. Is this normal? Thanks.

Re: Installation problem on AMD APU System

I don't have any dual boots with Windows 10..... they're all with Windows 7. But I'm planning on getting a Win 10 installed pc soon. Anyway, I was just reading this earlier this morning, and they say.. Assuming that your laptop or desktop system comes pre-installed with Windows 10 or Windows 8.1 or ...

Re: "gnome-keyring-daemon not responding"

That's the way I approached this also....regarding "practice makes perfect." I also have a dual boot on this pc with Windows 7. I would suggest that you approach the re-install slowly, and if you have any questions, back out of the process and post them here on the forum. Btw, my re-install of Mint ...

Re: "gnome-keyring-daemon not responding"

Hi triva, I fresh installed LM Cinnamon 18.2 this past weekend..... my first time ever using LM. I only started seeing this issue during shutdown....never during a restart btw.... that surprised me. I read this about Gnome keyring and decided I didn't want to run LM with that function being disabled...

Re: gnome-keyring-daemon prevents shutdown

I wasn't comfortable with having disabled the gnome-keyring-daemon so I enabled it back on and got the same indication at shutdown that it was not responding. I then decided to go ahead and reinstall Linux Mint 18.2, and, since then, everything has been working normal..... no more keyring messages a...

Re: Trying to determine my 'Backup' method

I have a couple of older pc's that are currently running Lubuntu OS and have been using Backups. On this pc, on which I just installed Mint 18.2 w Cinnamon 3.4.4 recently, I also used Backups previously when it was running another OS. So I have been used to Backups for a little while now. I find it ...

Re: gnome-keyring-daemon prevents shutdown

This problem persisted all afternoon whenever I did a shutdown. I did a search and saw where someone had a different problem with gnome-keyring-daemon and they wound up disabling it. I decided to try that and see what happens. Here's what I did (as root): usr/bin/gnome-keyring-daemon/properties/perm...

[SOLVED] gnome-keyring-daemon prevents shutdown

Hi, I've just recently installed Linux Mint 18.2 on my desktop, and like it very much so far. The one thing that I've noticed happening a few times now is that when I go to shut it down, I will get a message... gnome-keyring-daemon not responding waiting for program to finish It never finishes. It j...
