I stopped using those apps years ago when I found too many false positives.

Re: System76 calls Linux Mint "Mint Linux" the only time they mention another distro that isn't Ubuntu. LOL

I have a feeling they have a lot of staff there just because it's a job, not because they specifically have a background or interest in all-things-GNU+Linux. Sad, really, and a waste of resources and people's time. Agreed. However, a business should always be careful in this area as this has the po...

Re: System76 calls Linux Mint "Mint Linux" the only time they mention another distro that isn't Ubuntu. LOL

From http://support.system76.com/articles/desktop-environment/: " Make sure to always pick lightdm as the desktop manager when prompted while installing additional desktop environments. Choosing gdm, sddm, or another, will break the installation. If needed, this command can be run to pick the displa...

Re: I'd like Linux Mint to ask me what to do when battery gets critically low

Wait a second... IT WORKS! :D OK, apart from that change, I also had to tweak some parameters using dconf-editor. In branch "org.cinnamon.settings-daemon.plugins.power" dconf.png I changed percentage-critical to 5 and percentage-action to 4 , but it's essential to set use-time-for-policy at false (...

and control over fellow humans. I always looked at it as someone constantly staring at you, it gets unnerving after awhile because their gaze is fixed on you constantly, it becomes totally annoying. After telling the person not to stare because it's just rude, they keep staring and in the end you j...

Re: What is this? How do I get rid of it?

I found the issue using Chrome This server could not prove that it is mail.missouricom.com; its security certificate expired yesterday. This may be caused by a misconfiguration or an attacker intercepting your connection. Your computer's clock is currently set to Saturday, October 14, 2017. Does th...

Re: Incremented counter echoing zero value

Piped commands are run in a subshell, so variable scope changes. Changes to variables inside the pipe are lost when the pipe ends.

Re: Windows such as the file manager not looking right.

Yes, I did and issue is not resolved; however, upon further research , it seems like the only thing affected is the Linux mint cinnamon native apps that look this way. I'm guessing, from the OP, that this issue surfaced after an update. It looks like the native Cinnamon apps are ignoring the select...

Re: Gimp: Recently Used File List Disappears

Hi: I'm using Mint 18.2-Cinnamon-64 bit with the stock 2.8 Gimp as installed (I haven't added the usual stuff to it, since this is a new install). After using it for a few days, it has become apparent that the Recently Used File List periodically becomes empty. I had experienced this issue before o...

Probably the same as the rest of us....... nothing. I have to disagree with you there . I am not one of the " us " , and I'm guessing that there are many others on here that take the same view . A simple first step is to take full control of your router , and that may mean buying a new one . If I c...

Re: Desktop settings

catweazel is trying to tell you that both python2 and python3 on the same machine will work - and have worked alongside each other on various Linux distros for the years. And what I'm trying to say is that `/usr/lib/linuxmint/mintDesktop/mintDesktop.py` uses `python`. $ head -1 /usr/lib/linuxmint/m...

Re: Plans to switch to Xenforo? I'll pay.

The offer to pay for the license is gracious. We've looked at other forum software (both free and non-free) last year but phpBB remains our first choice (has the most pros and least cons, for us), and we do prefer to use free software (free as in open source). I hadn't heard about XenForo before so...

Re: Desktop settings

`mintdesktop` runs the Python file `/usr/lib/linuxmint/mintDesktop/mintDesktop.py` This is written for Python version 2.x. If you are running version 3.x, it will fail. Both python 2 and 3 are installed in Mint by default. But only one is `python` $ ls -l /usr/bin/python lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 9 Fe...

Re: Can't find installed Package to remove it

I don't mean to cause a panic, but.. Downloading a strange package, make it executable, then using sudo to install it? There was no way of knowing how much malware could have been packaged inside that bundle before you installed it. If it were me, I would just reinstall Mint and mark this as a less...

Re: Can't find installed Package to remove it

Try a dpkg query: dpkg-query --list | grep '[vV][mM]ware' Ignore anything that says "xserver-xorg-video" or "X.Org X server" Those are the only options that are there. It's a bit weird that it doesn't show in the list. It's as if it's not even installed Yeah, I just read the post from karlchen, it ...

Re: Can't find installed Package to remove it

Does this command give any information? apt-cache policy VMware-Player | grep Installed It doesn't give out any output, it just jumps to the next line so I'm assuming VMware-Player isn't the package name. Initially I had tried sudo apt-get remove VMware-Player but it stated that it was unable to lo...

Re: Can't find installed Package to remove it

Does this command give any information?

Code: Select all

apt-cache policy VMware-Player | grep Installed
or does it return

Code: Select all

Installed: (none)
If it gives you a version number (i.e. 12.5.7-5813279), then you know it is installed and you have the correct package name.
