You can make such difference on an old hardware. Otherwise it is pointless to try to make some visual difference.Pepi wrote:XFCE is ok but I really don't see a lot of performance difference that I read about?

The first thing that came into my mind is to use software for remote control like Team Viewer but you have to find one that works over bluetooth.

Re: Ability to easily see firewall status, unix password status and other security status...
So you are looking for something like security suites in Windows to tell you that you are protected and there are no security gaps in your system? Well, you don't have to. Just like Pjotr said, if you see a green tick on the Update Manager, everything is fine.

Re: Alternatives for Rhythmbox?
It means long years of usage. But you are free to name those, who can do it. Long years of usage means that you have used to it and everything else seems not so usable. For example the keyboard shortcuts - you can't compare music players software by their shortcuts, or the way you used to organize t...

Re: Alternatives for Rhythmbox?
Wine takes up a bunch of disk space but very little memory or CPU. In that consumption of memory and CPU you have to add and the one needed for the windows software because it is not just wine which is running. I can agree that using wine is justified when there is no comparable linux alternative, ...

A "big gaping security" from your perspective quite differ from real security gapes. What I see is paranoia due to lack of basic knowledges.flatiron wrote:Not wanting a big gaping security is wanting military encryption? This just seems... stupid. Sorry if that is offensive.

It is written already - by overwriting the data - formating the partitions, creating a new partition table or other. The encryption just encodes your data so the others can not read it. This does not mean that they can not delete it and can not write their own data. You need to read a little bit to ...

Re: what makes xfce lightweight?
RAM consumption depends on how much code is loaded into it (the DE, other modules, plugins, applets, visual enhancements etc.) and not necessarily how fast some environment is. I use Xfce with settings and modules aimed to be most convenient to me and to look just a way I like it. I can see that som...

Plus someone could get into your PC and use it to install data theft software, right? Unless your name is Edward Snowden, you don't have to worry about that. Rather you should think about backup of your data on other (i.e. cloud) location in case your computer is stolen. If your data is so sensitiv...

The tutorials you have seen are most probably for older Xmind versions, which have .deb installation file: http://www.xmind.net/download/previous/ In the link just below the Download button for 8 edition is explained that there are some user interface issues with Ubuntu 16.04 (on which Linux Mint 18...

No need of desklets which are visible only on desktop and I can configure the other elements in the most convenient for me way. Bellow are my right and left bottom corners. Screenshot_2017-1...
