Re: [SOLVED] Now I'm pissed off with the sound
One last update: Since I have installed the 4.14.1 with the latest AMD patches I noted that the system become more stable regarding the hibernating. Before that it often could not resume from hibernating and/or sleeping. So far with the new kernel I hadn't faced that. And something that I've read fr...

Re: Goodbye Windows
Is this more relative to Mint, because I'm trying Debian with OpenBox, Xfce and LXDE on one installation? This is an option given during the installation and so far nothing worrying.

My fault. Before I switched entirely to Xfce I had Cinnamon and Xfce on one installation without noticing any issues.

Re: Goodbye Windows
And what if I want to do dual boot of different versions ie cinnamon, mate or xdfe? These are different desktop environments and you don't have to boot them on a different Mint installation. Just install all of them on your Mint and can choose which one to load on the login screen. My Recommendatio...

Re: nVidia GT 635m Screen tearing
What desktop enviroment are you using? And window managers? Xfce and Compiz. When I used Cinnamon there was also no problems but with older driver version (can't really remember which one at that point). The observation of loading Intel and NOT nVidia driver ... This is normal if he has switched to...

Re: nVidia GT 635m Screen tearing
You can try with the other nvidia versions provided by the driver manager - 340.102 and 304.135 or even can try the open source drivers. However, I'm with 635M with 384.90 drivers and do not have any issues using the nvidia card.

Re: [SOLVED] Now I'm pissed off with the sound
A little bit like a monologue but after searching a while I found this source: https://github.com/M-Bab/linux-kernel-amdgpu-binaries in which are provided kernels with the most recent amdgpu developments. Now I have sound on the TV through the HDMI and on the monitor through the display port... and ...

256MB with 3D support enabled but the DirectX support is experimental. I had cases in which Windows 7 cannot pass the Aero test. For some windows games and applications you can try wine but I would suggest Windows/Linux dual boot.

Re: Can I run everything on a Windows virtualbox and have nearly the same gaming performance?
At least you can't set VirtualBox to use all CPU kernels, can't use all the RAM and can use only partial 2D and 3D hardware support from the video card with very limited memory... so no.

Re: [SOLVED] Now I'm pissed off with the sound
I've read that kernel 4.15 is a huge improvement for the AMD graphics cards. So I installed 4.15 RC2 kernel and once again tried to get sound from the graphic card - no luck. It seems that I have to wait for future improvements. I've thought to replace the video card with Nvidia one, but so far I so...

Re: Mint 18.1 Cinn: How To: AMD Driver install (RX480, R7, R9) + Steam
If you pay attention at the first post, you will see that these instructions are written for kernel 4.8 and drivers version 17.10-401251. Did you meet these requirements when you followed the instructions? As I can see at least your drivers are newer build.

Qiut nano with Ctrl+X and reopen the file with "nano amdgpu-pro-install".

Re: New HUGE Apple Mac Vulnerability found means anyone can access as root using a few key strokes
This is known and this is same with Linux Mint. That's why you should set root password as soon as you install it. In that case somebody can use live USB/CD distribution to access your files, and you should use encryption, and so on...
