Re: Easy to use encryption software?

Have you tried to search in the Software Manager for something relevant like "crypt"? If you have did that you would get as a first result Cryptkeeper: "An encrypted folders manager, it allows users to mount and unmount encfs folders, to change the password and to create new crypted f...

Re: what mail client do you prefer

Enigmail encrypts the sent/recieved messages. The Bat! can encrypt its folder on computer. Of course, in Mint the whole home directory can be encrypted and a password can be set for starting Thunderbird, but I was wondering if there is such alternative for Linux.

Re: Optimising for a high resolution screen.

Much more better is to increase the DPI. I can't remember where is it in Cinnamon, but in XFCE is quite easy to find it in settings under Appearance menu.

Re: Get AMD drivers on Mint 18 [ONLY FOR R7, R9, OR RX CARDS]

Until this bad update I was running kernel 4.8.0-58 with amdgpu-pro-17.30-458935 and that is a working combination. From my experience the driver 17.30 build 458935 is the last one that will work . Build 46xxxx will cause problems. After several attempts to install the latest build of the amdgpu-pr...

Re: Make Orpie (or any calculator) to accept comma as decimal separator

The calculator that comes with xfce (I belive with the other DEs as well) if you use the numeric keyboard (NumLock on) the dot button "." works as a decimal symbol. But if you turn off the NumLock, the calculator accepts the numbers but not the dot. You have to use the comma "," ...

Re: Now I'm pissed off with the sound

Does the sound work if you boot into Mint live from USB? Nope. Just tried. Try pavucontrol: sudo apt-get install pavucontrol Then: pavucontrol pavucontrol is the default audio control in xfce and it is installed by default. It says that everything should work just fine but there is no sound at all.

[SOLVED] Now I'm pissed off with the sound

I had Creative SoundBlaster Zx which is reported that does not work with Linux Mint 18.2. I removed the card but the internal sound card also does not work - it is with ALC892 and after searching I found out that it also has problem with linux. And finally I tried to get sound with the HDMI from my ...

Audio card with good linux support

I'm looking for new audio card since I could not get sound from my old Creative SoundBlaster Zx. Now I'm looking for a mid level PCIe sound card, mainly for music, which has good Linux support. Any suggestions?

Re: Mint reports wrong disksize on 4TB Toshiba disk

OK, partition table was "unknown". But creation of partition table didn't change anything. Now we are partitiontable:gpt and size still 1.64TB. 255 heads, 63 sectors/tracks, 219051 cyls, sectors total 3519069872, sector size 512 which means: 3519069872 x 512 = 1,802x10pw12 which sounds li...

Re: What made you switch to Linux Mint?

What made me to switch to Linux Mint? Windows 10! As simple as that! I have tried several times in the past to migrate to Linux (SuSe, Fedora, Slackware) but every time I switched back to Windows, because I was used to it. This time, pissed off with Microsoft, I was very stubborn to stay with Linux....
