Re: cdrom drive replaced with usb bluray drive

Check in Synaptic Package Manager, and be sure you have libbluray1 (or similarly named, check the description) installed. If not, install it, reboot, and try it again. Please report your results. :-)

Re: Opening downloaded apps

Was it a .deb file ? or some sort of zip? If it was a deb file, choose "open with gdebi package installer"
Mint 18.3 is based on Ubuntu 16.04, did you download the correct version?

PS: uBlock Origin is a Mozilla Add-on that you can download/install from Firefox's Add-ons menu. (I use it)

If it is clam that you installed, it is not a GUI and is run by the terminal, the GUI you want is called clam-tk, you will need to download/install that to see an actual program. With that said, I have been running Linux Mint since Mint version 5, and have NEVER installed an av, and have NEVER caugh...

Re: Extracting .zip or .rar files

For rar files you may need to install p7zip-full and p7zip-rar from Synaptic Package Manager. ( then Mattyboy's suggestion will work)

Re: sound card issues

I can't say for sure that this isn't a hardware issue, so I'm intentionally leaving hardware details out until I know it's not a software issue Have you found many other forum posts with your same issue? I would think that if this was a Mint software issue, the Mint forums would be inundated with s...

Re: LinuxMint fresh installation - which graphic driver should I install?

Apologies, on call and was called away . . Try this: apt install --reinstall xserver-xorg-video-ati xserver-xorg-video-radeon
And a reboot would probably be a good idea. :)

Whichever program you use, go into preferences and make sure the default drive is set to: /dev/sr0 (a number zero 0, not a capital O)

Un-official drivers installed without Mint Driver Manager will do that sometimes. :(
Did you have problems with the available drivers in Driver manager?
