Re: Following install instructions, what Ubuntu version?

In your Software Sources picture, please delete that very first entry for Bintray. Then don't forget to click the "Update the cache" button before you close.

Re: CPU Identification - amd64?

The terminal command: inxi -Cx will give you a general overview of your cpu, it's cores, and current speeds. :)

Or you could use the hardinfo GUI (System Profiler & Benchmark in the menu once installed).

Open and login to Synaptic Package Manager, and from the menubar choose "Fix broken packages" . . please report any error messages.

After a recent update . .
Can you go into Mint Update Manager's history and narrow down what exactly was updated just before this occurred?

Re: packages configured multiple times and can't tell which

Keep the official-package-repositories.list and delete the whole sources.list file. They are all dupes of the official list.

Re: Problem adding packages

Can you use the Mint Update Manager to remove some of the old kernels you aren't using anymore? to make room for the new?
You have about 28 megs left in your /boot, and trying to fit in an updated kernel, which takes about 35 megs or so . . :(

Re: Need some good Dark theme..

For Xfce, I use a dark theme from mozilla add-ons, as firefox seems to always have problems with text boxes etc. For system-wide themes (excluding firefox) there are many nice ones at deviantart.com. Just do a search for xfce dark or xfwm4 dark.

Re: Calculator with a save or retention feature

You may need to download the source code of the latest edition from their website and compile it. (don't forget to have build-essentials installed prior to compiling)

Qalculate might fit your needs. I use the older version available in Synaptic Package Manager.

What does this terminal command give you as output ?

inxi -Cx

My guess? Power Saving feature drops your cpu power when it is not required.

Re: Ubuntu 16.04 LTS upgrade gets stuck on python3-uno

Just a thought;
Have you tried deleting that file and re-downloading a fresh copy? Sometimes a re-install won't re-download.
To remove: sudo rm /var/cache/apt/archives/python3-uno_1%3a4.2.8-0ubuntu5.3_amd64.deb
Then retry the upgrade, hopefully it will download a fresh copy . . :)

Re: Memory loss after every Kernel update

I personally, always keep one extra kernel that I know works well with my hardware. (and keep that kernel version also updated)
Just in case a new update corrupts the newest one, I have a fallback that I know works. :-)
