Re: won't install on ryzen 5 2500U :(

I would like to say; a little caution is needed with the previous reply. There are other, better places to get newer Ubuntu HWE kernels than the un-supported Mainline. There are detriments to running Mainline kernels, one of which, would cause Mint Update to stop providing any updates for the kernel...

Re: Application no longer starts after system updates

I don't know the name of the executable file, but try running it from the Terminal. ( Example : keepassxc)
When it spits out errors, please copy/paste the entire output back here in a reply.

Did you read the Mint 19 Release Notes? Specifically the section called "Solving freezes during the boot sequence" ?

Re: [SOLVED] Upgrade from 18.3 Cinnamon to 19 Xfce

The reason it is not in 19 is because they have retired gksudo. Much scrambling around with; admin this, pkexec that . . it IS a mess ! (not only in Xfce) :(

Patience is definitely a virtue in linux.

Re: Xfce4 Broken package

To answer the OP. You can use the menu item in Synaptic Package Manager called "Fix broken packages".

The correct package to install Mint Xfce is called mint-meta-xfce. It will include all required files and apps to run the Xfce desktop.

Re: Unusual CPU load

After zooming your pic, I see that Cinnamon is taking up over 50% on all of your cores . . :? Might it be that your CPU is doing all of the heavy 3D graphics chores of running Cinnamon, instead of your graphics card? Please use this terminal command, copy the entire output, and paste it back here in...

If Shutter just won't work for you, try out xfce4-screenshooter. I've got the launcher in my panel, makes things quite easy.

Re: Unable to factory reset Acer with Mint Cinnamon installed

It would show an NTFS partition somewhere if the Factory reset partition was there.

No, the 4.2 extended partition is where the 4.2 swap partition resides.

Re: Unable to factory reset Acer with Mint Cinnamon installed

If you click on that 4.2 Gb Extended partition (in the Disks program), it should show you some information about it.

Never mind . . 496 Gb for Cinnamon, and a 4.2 Gb swap partition . . NO there are not any factory partitions there anymore. :(

Re: Unable to factory reset Acer with Mint Cinnamon installed

Did you choose to "use entire disk" when you installed Cinnamon ?

You can use the Disks program to see if you can see the Factory partitions on your hard drive.

Do you still have the Factory partitions on the hard drive for the reset to read from?

Re: Core temperature above threshold, cpu clock throttled

While I am booted up and using the OS my fan
speeds up normally and I dont reach cpu temps over 85C. And that is usually only on heavier work loads.
I think you answered your own question . . :)

Re: Xfce running slow

Here is the terminal command to open the Menu Editor. Drill down the tree structure on the left pane till you find those offending items, click it, and in the right pane you will see the Hide toggle.

menulibre

PS: No, I don't know why there isn't a launcher for it in the menu . . :?

You are already using the correct driver. From the output on your first post:
configuration: driver=radeon latency=0
