Re: Total noob

You might think that because a lot of commercial web servers run on linux that it will be easy and simple to run a local lamp server on your linux desktop. It isn't. You can get in a right muddle with it, and the internet is awash with incomplete and out of date advice. As a fellow noob I can tell y...

Re: Help me install XAMPP on linux

If like I was you are looking for an application that just works for web development and you aren't interested in learning to configure a web server with the terminal or mastering the arcane system of permissions which underlies any linux system: https://bitnami.com/stack/lamp Bitnami Lamp Stack is ...

Re: Uninstalling fonts

My dropdown font selector in LOffice and inkscape is still full of international fonts. I think some have gone. I wonder if the package managers failed to purge the configs for the fonts they deleted. If it helps, this is my postinstall script for removing fonts I don't need on LM19. Definitely not...

Re: Uninstalling fonts

If you install incompatible 3rd paty fonts ... which is an issue Linux newbies should be aware of ... and then use a 3rd party font manager which is quite possibly also incompatible, you're going to run into trouble. Beginners often seem to have heard that with Linux you can anything you want. That...

My dropdown font selector in LOffice and inkscape is still full of international fonts. I think some have gone. Re: Uninstalling fonts

I can report that using Software Manager and Synaptic to uninstall fonts is not as reliable as you might expect. I went through both applications removing all the indian, thai, burmese, arabic etc fonts then tested Libre Office Draw and Inkscape after a reboot and the massive list of unwanted intern...

Yes, if you want to bork your system... See this: https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?t=259109 Ha Ha! Yes, I already borked my laptop trying to sort out fonts with a font manager app so I was questioning the unlikely advice given in a thread we seem to have been detached from. Thanks for tha...

[SOLVED with thanks] Uninstalling fonts

[...]. It adds it to the hidden fonts directory in your home directory so if needed you can easily remove it again and it doesn't affect other user accounts on the same system. So to uninstall a font you can just delete the file? Okay. Where are these font files? I don't have a hidden .fonts direct...

Re: Antialiasing has gone

Thanks, pal. I see what you mean about the configs being everywhere. I don't even have all those locations you listed, and I had several others not listed, maybe created by the font-manager app. Anyway I recklessly deleted a few files that looked like candidates and we are working again. Boy, it hur...

This is mint 19 Cinnamon on an Acer C720 chromebook. Intel Corporation Haswell-ULT Integrated Graphics Controller. How to remove the dual boot option

I installed mint 19 alongside mint 18. so I have a dual boot and separate partiions. After a few weeks I am happy with mint19 and I want to remove the dual boot option and reclaim the old partition, deleting mint 18 and the old home folder.

What's the procedure for doing that?

Re: How to install second local wordpress site on LAMP?

A little confusion I think because the wordpress download once unzipped is all in a containing folder named 'wordpress'. Normally to make a new wp site once you have created the new database you would create a folder/directory in your localhost root, so in your case you would make the folder /var/ww...

LAMP again, this time Bitnami Lampstack

A bit of a surprise here. - it just works! Download the installer and run, plus there are good faqs and help pages. I have wordpress and GetSimple installed on a local LAMP stack without any complications. Incredible. the whole thing seems to go in the Home folder so there are no issues with permiss...

this is going nowhere. I have no clue how to proceed.
I have a tip from elsewhere that bitnami lampstack will work.
