Re: Scanning

Sorry for late very late reply, must think I'm a right ignorant git. I didn't notice your reply when last visited, I've updated to 19.2 and starting off again setting up the scanner. I was using Simple and gscan2pdf before the upgrade. The only program that works again is Simple Scan, so I'm keep up...

Re: Font size for date and time

Thanks for the replies, it's just one of those details that's been missed.
Tends to be the silly little things that drives you nuts.
Last time I tried the CSS file I screwed it up so for now I'll give that a miss,.
All in all we can't really complain too much

Re: Font size for date and time

Being dyslexic doesn't help either, Last time I messed about with the text editor I ended up doing a complete re-install. Xsane doesn't work at all and simple-scan is also a little off with leaving coloured creases on the pages, which is more of an issue than the date. The fixes that worked for upda...

Re: Font size for date and time

Thanks I'll have a look at it,
I thought that the text size would follow the icons.
Maybe it's an idea for a future update.
Thanks again

Font size for date and time

On 19 I managed to have a larger font for the Panel date and time, just updated to 19.2 and there appears to be no way to change the font size for the clock and time. Changing desktop theme, default font or icon size {had the icon size up to 50 but the font size didn't change} doesn't work and I've e...

Re: Scanning

Thanks phd21, I followed the instructions [sudo add-apt-repository ppa:rolfbensch/sane-git - sudo apt-get update - sudo apt install sane sane-utils unpaper libsane1 libsane-common - restart] and tried a couple of scans and it's working fine, I see how it goes from now on. I had tried to update sane ...

Re: Scanning

This was just a general rant about how Sane seems to have been forgotten about.. I agree with phd21 in that Mint does quite well and my scanner does work with most of the software, in a fashion. Up until the later versions of Mint 18 and now Mint 19 there wasn't a problem, just happens that Cannon s...

Scanning

Although Mint's all singing and dancing there doesn't seem to be any effort going into Sane. The reason I'm twisting is that I have to do any scanning on the wife's Win10 Laptop and after fifteen minutes it's still configuring updates  My scanner, an old Cannon Lide 100 still works well but Ca...

SOLVED [I think]Re: grub2 problem

It appears that I may have repaired Mint 19, more by luck that judgement. I was using a usb with UEFI and BIOS which was showing as two hard drive and I was only moving one of them into 1st boot. When I put then in order of UWFI 1st then BIOS second it booted into the Live USB from which I could do ...

grub2 problem

Reinstalling Mint 19 after trying out another OS I recieved notice that there was a Grub2 fault Looking at the paritions when I tried another install the auto install appears to have added a couple of empty ones that's causing systeb to fail on boot. So I tried another clean install of mint but it a...

Re: Downgrade from Mint 19 to Mint 18.2 Cinnamon

Out of curiosity I installed a Debian OS on an old laptop, I then did a test run using Simple Scan on default settings. Top image is Mint 19, way too light and with streaks, bottom image is the Deb scan which is more like what I used to get on Mint. https://i.postimg.cc/PJRb2Cxr/Scanm19.jpg https://...

Re: Downgrade from Mint 19 to Mint 18.2 Cinnamon

Join the club, I've problems with my CanoScan Lide 100. Used to work on 18 fine but the scans are useless on 19. Installed VueScan and it worked perfectly, but unless you fork out for the full pack it's limited. Simple scan gave the best results but they still had quite a bit of noise on them. So in...

Re: older cannon scanners

On Mint 19 Simple Scan surprised me by giving the best results, on the left. Xsane and others didn't do so well. It the same with documents, having to set the setting down to grey scale in order to turn the red and yellow marks into black or grey. I'm at a loss as how to get rid of the distortions u...

Re: older cannon scanners

Out of curiosity I've just installed a version of Zorin 12.4 on and my old laptop and tried the Scanner using the same programs and settings. The results with Zorin were better than those on MInt 19, for example no thick vertical yellow line running down the centre of the page and very little colour...

Re: older cannon scanners

I agree, the variety and number of disto’s would be a problem although if they started just supporting Ubuntu, surly those based on Ubuntu would in the main be compatible and then go forward from there. Even if they made older software more comparable with Wine. As for if every one used Linux, we wo...

Re: older cannon scanners

When I was referring companies supporting Linux, I was meaning for them to provide complete software packages to install their software using the Software Manager. Rather than just the drives to use with Simple Scan, as with the images posted they don't always get results. Not knocking Simple Scan i...

Re: older cannon scanners

Thanks for the replies. I agree with you portreve as regarding the apparent lack of interest in scanner's and updating xsane. However, I do believe that they still have a purpose for the home user for sending docs via email and getting pages onto the computer, although camera's are improving and may...

Re: older cannon scanners

I've installed 19 hoping drivers would be updated but as you say I don't believe that there will be much done for the older cannon scanners. As far as I can tell even on Windows, Cannon doesn't provide software downloads for the scanner, those who haven't a CD/DVD player are out of luck. So they are...

Re: older cannon scanners

Have a HP deskjet3636 with the same problem but not quite as bad as the cannon. Thinking about trying VueScan, if that's the same then anything that requires a good scan of will just use Windows. Although I hate having to resort to using Windows, it's not worth buying a new scanner when the other tw...
