SOLVED Re: DVD drive not working

The Drive isn't listed in the bios. Having other issues with it so it's going into retirement. Couldn't see any loose connections either so it may just be the DVD drive. It's still running so I'll leave alone until I set-up the new one. I could run into problems with setting up the new computer and ...

SOLVED- DVD drive not working

I have much the same problem but not sure where to ask and don't wish to waist time and space on the forum by posting info in the wrong place. Haven't needed to use DVD so didn't notice that it wasn't shown after updated via package manager to 18.3 until I needed it. Drive won't open and seems to ha...

SOLVED - [NOT POSSIBLE AT THIS TIME] Support for .wdp files

Thanks for your replies. You have just confirmed what I thought and saved me trying out all of the software to find out. The images were taken on an old camera that the SD card was left in, images transferred to computer and card wiped. It's not elegant, but most likely Irfanview can do it, and it's...

SOLVED - Support for .wdp files

Is there an image viewer that supports viewing Microsoft's .wdp image files. XnView doesn't appear to support them on Linux and neither does Gimp, gthumb and Pix. I've looked on the Software Manager and the .wdp extension isn't listed. Problem is that many of the programs don't give a full list of s...

Re:[SOLVED]I would love to go back to Linux right now.

Deep breath taken, more than one. Yes I did try Jerry's suggestion, failed but that may have been down to me. Decided that the best option would be to take it back and purchase a machine without an operating system. It ended up a choice between Zoostorm and CCL, decided to use CCL. Zoostorm systems ...

Re: Where to buy [SOLVED]

Thanks good advice. It may be imagination or my last remaining grey cell has shrunk, probably the latter, but since I last installed mint 8 things have become a just a shade more complex. For what started as a simple twist about Microsoft it's become quite informative. Thanks to all. When I decide o...

Re: Where to buy

The secure boot seemed the obvious reason, but I didn't know of the A10 problems.
Duel boot is the last thing I want to do, I don't want Win 10 in any form.
Reading and understanding some of it, it appears that it would be better to stay away from AMD.

Re: I would love to go back to Linux right now.

Well, that's good news! Does this mean the issue is solved? Then please mark it as such Is it not for the instigator of the post to say if they believe that their problem is solved. My problem wasn't solved, I just started using my older machine and sent the HP packing, so would you say that was so...

Re: I would love to go back to Linux right now.

Why five ISO downloads? If the checksum checks out, you know you've got a valid ISO. I was getting paranoid and making dam sure before I returned it. UEFI motherboard? Did you try booting Linux using Legacy/CMS mode? If that works, install it in Legacy instead. It is possible to install both window...

Re: Where to buy

I asked Dell regarding Linux because they do Linux laptops, but didn't see anything about no operating system and didn't get a very helpful answer. I haven't seen anything yet to see if Dell are going to tow the line and follow Microsoft's example by not providing the 'optional' disable feature. Dep...

Re: Mint 18.3 Locked out unable to install

Sent the HP back, No hassle from the shop and the tech seemed to know about the problem with the secure boot.
Will this be a problem that the likes of HP, Dell and friends address, lets hope so.
