Re: Lost USB devices after Mint 20 installation

"sometimes an upgrade/install goes south." Personally, I would do another "clean" install (without any USB devices attached, except for a Live LM20 USB for installation), as it seems that the USB bus configuration didn't go right during install. I've experienced that before. Good...

Re: Lost USB devices after Mint 20 installation

IF USB devices are attached to a hub, maybe the hub is caput! If USB devices are not recognized after plugging each one separately into your pc, then a re-install of the OS may work, as sometimes an upgrade/install goes south. Try a Live USB/DVD to test if USB devices are recognized after plugging e...

Re: Notification HD almost full, doesn't add up

IF you partitioned your HDD with "something else" during install, your /home or /root folder may be full.
If so, open Gparted and resize either folder.
Gparted will show the status of your HDD.

Re: Linux not Detecting all my RAM

"Linux and windows both wouldn't detect the amount or ram I have installed".
Run Memtest to check whether the RAM is bad or not.

Reboot.
Press & Hold Shift key until Grub menu appears.
Select Memtest.

Ditto.
I upgraded 3 laptops from LM19.3 to LM20, so many problems, which much of them I resolved. But, I finally threw in the towel and did a "clean" install via USB flash drive.
Presto! Good to go. All problems solved.

Re: From 19.3 to 20 : unable to downgrade foreign pckg

I had issues upgrading from LM19.3 to LM20. But that was not one of them.
I finally downloaded the LM20 iso, burnt it to a USB flash drive, and did a CLEAN Install of LM20, AFTER I backed up my critical info.
Everything works fine now.

Re: Cannot mount LUKS partition after upgrade to mint 20

I upgraded from LM19.3 to LM20, and my LUKS partition works fine (encrypt and decrypt). But, my LUKS partition is on a separate (Data) partition, not on the OS partition. As long as you know the location of the LUKS partition and you have the password for LUKS, then you should have no problems. Poin...

Re: Cannot boot after fresh install of 20 Cinnamon

Since you did a fresh install from the USB flash drive, did you install Grub on the /dev/sda drive? Not /dev/sda1, etc.

Re: reverting from 20 to 19.3 via timeshift

I just reverted back to LM19.3 Mate from LM20 Mate via a Timeshift backup.
I was running LM20, then opened Timeshift, then selected the LM19.3 (tricia) backup, then clicked Restore.
Timeshift restore comleted, laptop rebooted.
Flawless, everything works fine.

Re: Boot time LM20

I have LM20 Cinnamon on 1 laptop and LM20 MATE on another. On both laptops, the boot time went from 1 minute to 3 minutes, and when I click on File Manager, it takes 1 minute to open. Intel sound went out on both laptops. The printer no longer works on both laptops. I fixed all those issues after mu...

Re: No startup Sound in LM20 MATE

I upgraded from LM 19.3 Mate to LM 20.0 Mate. No audio, period. After trying lots of "fixes', nothing worked. My fix: Go to Menu/Sound & Video. Delete Pulseaudio, Sounds, and QasMixer (if listed). Reboot. All sounds now work. Sound icon in lower-right corner by clock is gone. Using keyboard...

Re: TrueCrypt, VeraCrypt, or ???

I use LUKS (Linux Unified Key Setup) in LM 19.3 x64. I created a "Data" partition on the HDD. Within the Data partition, I have several encrypted folders (LUKS). I, personally, would NOT use either TrueCrypt or VeraCrypt (as TrueCrypt has a NASA backdoor, probably VeraCrypt, also). Safe en...

I have been using Cyberghost for around 10 years. Cyberghost has an installation package for Linux, BUT, after running hoops for 2 weeks, I gave up.
Too many errors, etc.......
So, now, I just logon to Cyberghost and go from there.

Well, in that case, maybe you should check into "mifi". That works for several friends.

Re: Wifi not working on T430 laptop

Kramer,
1. Boot from a Live Linux Mint 19.3 DVD/USB and try the wifi.
2. Use a USB wifi adaptor.
3. Reinstall LM, sometimes you encounter a bad install.

A friend had a location he needed wifi for that was 1000 feet from his house. I ran 1000 feet of Romex 10-3 gray outdoor wire from the house breaker box, with an additional 20-Amp breaker. Inside an enclosed waterproof polybox that sits on a platform 5 feet high that has a roof, I installed a GFCI o...

Re: Timeshift, Not enough disk space.

I always create a "DATA" partition on the HDD/SSD just to store Timeshift backups and other data, KEEPING all this data off the / and /home partitions, etc, etc.. This way, I never run out of space. I also copy/move Timeshift backups to external HDD/SSD, thereby saving needed space on the ...

Re: Files Won't Delete From Directory

To remove ALL files inside that directory:
sudo rm /path-to-folder/foldername/*

Then, to remove that directory (which is now empty):
sudo rm /path-to-folder/foldername

This always works for me, but I'm sure there's a better way.
