Re: KDEConnect

Thanks, I now have it working...sort of. But it looks like I can't initiate sending SMS from it, I can only respond? Ooops... now it has decided to unpair my PC all by itself... and can't find it again... Ok, enough of this..another "not ready for prime time" app - uninstall/purge - not wasting any ...

Re: KDEConnect

I've tried all of those to no avail. I get so far, and then there's no SMS on the PC. From what I've seen, am I not supposed to have an icon in the system tray for kdeconnect that I access to send SMS? The only one I see has only the "Quit" option. I'm finding no SMS function to use, even though it'...

KDEConnect

Can I actually send a text from my computer with this app?
I've installed it several times and finally got it to pair with my phone, but I can't find any way to send from the PC - none of the "answers" I've found so far help at all.

Re: Speed Dial Problem

Ha! Got it. I was doing something else and went into settings, where I happened to open Speed Dial there - which I hadn't thought of before. (And I had also disconnected from Syncing, in case that was involved.) And this time the options were there and I was able to delete it. Wow. So simple, and ye...

Re: good VPN?

I've been using nordVPN for about a year with no issues at all. Not even a noticeable drop in speed! Double VPNs, Tor connections, tons of options. Really glad I have it. Mint now has an applet (thanks for that) that will monitor the connection - a kill switch - that works really well, called "VPN L...

Nemo copy process very slow and cripples machine

When I use nemo to copy a large group of files, it starts fine, but then slows right down. The system as a whole also slows right down, too.
What might be going on here?
Swappiness is at 10, 16 Gig RAM, and it's an i7-2600.

Re: Speed Dial Problem

There's a Stumbleupon icon on the Speed Dial - I got rid of that a long time ago, but all of a sudden this thing is back, without a way to get rid of it.
Grrr. Frustratingly offensive.

Whine about Searching with Boolean operators

Do any current search engines actually still respond to Boolean operators in the search query? Other than Google's Advanced Search, I can' t find any that work right the way I use them. Once upon a time, it was how you searched for anything on any engine, but now they seem to ignore these terms. Esp...

[SOLVED] Speed Dial Problem

Running Opera 53 Suddenly have an entry in my speed dial I can't get rid of. The item's context menu has ONLY a "remove" option, which doesn't work. Other, normal items have multiple options in their context menus, esp. "move to bin", but not this oddball. Does anybody know how I can get rid of this...

Re: Rearrange icons in the System Tray

This is purely cosmetic: looking for the aesthetically pleasing colour configuration for that corner of the desktop. I notice that every time I restart, these particular icons are loaded in a different order. How is this order determined by the system? Surely this can't be as randomly assigned as it...

Rearrange icons in the System Tray

Is this possible? They aren't movable manually in there.
Is there somewhere to set the order these icons load into the System tray?

Amusing Reading Recommendation

"Year Zero" by Rob Reid Earth is at stake: a little mistaken identity lands a copyright lawyer in a mess of aliens, music, royalties, piracy, save-earth-from-destruction, a surprise appearance by Bill Gates and the most amazing, hilarious, and obviously true twist at the end. (a wonderful example of...

Re: Why is Mint 18.3 Cinn adding user name to the end of the filename

If I save a screenshot to the desktop, the user name is appended. If I copy and paste with mouse clicks, ditto. .....copy and paste using the edit menu, ditto ....create a new folder on the desktop, ditto ....drag and drop, the same. Same from the terminal. But the appended name only shows on the de...

[SOLVED] Why is Mint 18.3 Cinn adding user name to the end of the filename

Any time I copy files to the desktop now have my user name added to some of the names. Why? And how do I turn it off?
Example: "screenshot.png" becomes "screenshot.png username"

ap-linux - aka - audiophile linux

This looks interesting - but these people have serious issues. Distro is free - check Download 1 - free - starts at "3 days" - uncheck Download 2 - you got to pay the upkeep on their servers to download - check them right off the ice... What's with this? I got to pay to download just to have a look?

Re: DNSCrypt-proxy-2

Sounds like DNSCrypt-proxy was dead/dying and some of those involved have picked it up again, if I have it right. It's on the github page above https://github.com/jedisct1/dnscrypt-proxy I have no idea yet if it's worth the effort; got pointed to it by the "Resident Paranoid" Person at ArsTechnica. ...
