Re: NordVPN seems to be toast

Thanks, mang...

Just want a no-log VPN that works.

I am very far from a "conspiracy" type, but I wonder if nordVPN is not under some kind of pressure (trying to avoid use of word "attack" :)

Things have been so strange lately

NordVPN seems to be toast

Ever since I raved about NordVPN a week ago, they been in a downwards dive. I have no idea what's going on, but none of my computers can stay connected, nor can a neighbour's who's also using Nord Download speeds in the last week with their VPN have dropped 80%. Yes, 80%. It's almost embarrassing. W...

Re: Add Linux disk to Win 10 box without overwriting MBR

Finally, finally...
after multiple failed attempts I located the lenovo System Update program for Windows and was able to update the BIOS.

Which was apparently the issue.

Successful installation with Windows unharmed.

Re: Add Linux disk to Win 10 box without overwriting MBR

I have to say I'm stumped with this windows box. I have tried every way that Linux Mint will install on a second disk, but I cannot get it to NOT automatically boot into Windows. To get to Linux I have to bring up the UEFI/BIOS boot menu and select the right disk. There does not appear to be any way...

[SOLVED]Add Linux disk to Win 10 box without overwriting MBR

I have a new (to me) PC with Windows 10 pre-installed . I want to add my Linux disk to the box, but I don't want to overwrite the windows MBR. As per https://askubuntu.com/questions/726972/dual-boot-windows-10-and-linux-ubuntu-on-separate-hard-drives I need it to boot from the linux disk, as usual. ...

I actually get 192 and 16 regularly through NordVPN

With a Lenovo M92 i5 and 12 Gb Ram

Is that good? I really don't know anymore.

Re: Observations on life

I have driven extensively in multiple cities on 3 continents. And believe it or not, the scariest place I've ever driven, which includes Spain, Morocco, and Italy, is plain old Toronto, Canada. When I came back here, I couldn't believe it, and it's only getting worse. Maybe it's something to do with...

Add a working Mint disk to new Windows box

Just got home with new (refurbished) Lenovo M92 Refer here: https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=49&t=277246&p=1523751#p1523751 And as usual my search-phrasing sucks. If I just add my Linux disk, what do I have to do to set-up dual boot? I'm sure the answer is already here in the forums, I j...

Re: Lenovo PCs on Ubuntu Hardware List

Since there aren't a lot of HPs in the UHL, I think it's safe to say HP has issues with Linux. Both of my HPs have awful intermittent hardware issues that they didn't seem to have with Windows. (And their Windows support is really bad, fwit) I also have an Intel mb/chip in a thrown-together-odds-and...

[ Solved] Lenovo PCs on Ubuntu Hardware List

Really tired of hardware issues in Windows-designed boxes, and am looking at boxes on the Ubuntu Hardware List. Two HPs have been disasters, and I can't build another one cuz "old age vision." I'm looking for selection advice between 2 Lenovos, one new and one refurbished. I know, go for new, except...

catweazel, that's amazing! I guess I just don't know how to phrase searches - I think I'll start asking you hoe to do that!.... Anyway, here's the simple fix - other searches had me deleting the obviously wrong files. - bad file is named 'cinnamon-settings-daemon-xrandr.desktop', deleting thi...

[Solved by catweazel] Added a monitor - getting this error message

This box has 18.3 Cinnamon on it, and it's had an HDMI tv as the monitor so far. I added a 24" LG monitor, and I can't configure anything for either one. They automatically start out mirrored, and when I try change anything, I get this error message: GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnk...

Well, I don't know what I did wrong the first 3 times I tried to set this up, but I've got my fonts back.
