Discovery for Other Newbies

Found this site, which seems to have tons of up-to-date .deb packages.
I couldn't get some apps working on one box here until I removed the ones from the Software Manager and installed these ones.

I don't know if our gurus approve, but it's been working great for me.

[Solved] Confused by Korganizer settings

Having a hell of a time getting korganizer to get rid of old data. Does anyone know here the data stuff in korganizer is stored. I've removed and purged it twice but it keeps finding old data when I install. I've deleted any calendar files I could find. I also can't find where to turn off week numbe...

Questions About Syncing Programs/Apps

Having some hassles, here. What I want to do is, I hope, quite simple. But nothing I've tried has worked, probably my fault. Need help to do this- 2 Mint boxes, 18.3 Cinn. 2 programs, Gnucash and a Calendar app. I want to sync these so they stay the same on both boxes (and I'd need close to real-tim...

Re: [SOLVED]How to setup a "kill switch" for a vpn via firewall rules?

"VPN Lifeguard" is a really effective kill-switch for Linux. There's a deb package for it, but it requires Gambas3 >3.9 as a dependency.
And it works really, really well.

Re: Regarding Oracle VM Virtualbox/Mint 18.3 'Rendering Mode'

When your VM is running, go to the "Devices" drop-down menu at the top. The bottom option should be to "Insert Guest Additions..." If it doesn't work, then go back to "Devices", the first option should be "Optical Drives" with a sub-option "Remove Disk from Optical Drive". If it's greyed out, you ha...

Re: Running in software rendering mode

As I said, 3D Acceleration IS on.
Turns out that the VB guest stuff was corrupted and I had to reinstall VB.
Working now.

Thanks all.

Re: Running in software rendering mode

The above issue is with Mint 19 (or Debian 9) Cinnamon.
Mate or XFCE are fine.

The VMs are set at 2 GB RAM / 128 MB display / 2-processors / 3D Acceleration / 100GB virtual disk (big HDD)
What else might point to the reason?

HP machines can be difficult with Linux if you're going to re-purpose a Windows PC.

Re: Running in software rendering mode

The thing is that it is the installation iso that first says

"running in software rendering mode"

All settings are as normal, there are 4 other VMs on this box without this problem.
But the same issue happens when trying to install Debian 9.

Is there something different about these 2 iso's?

Re: Which System Files to backup?

Thanks heaps.
Given the claim that Timeshift does NOT back up user files, I wasn't understanding that tab. Have done as you suggest and will see what happens this time.
So much confusion from bad wording, everywhere... :(

Which System Files to backup?

Experimenting with scheduling backups again. For me, Timeshift is out-of-the-question. I have tried it multiple times, on 2 machines, and it's completely unusable - with the default configuration it starts up and doesn't stop. Just today, my last attempt, it filled up a 1 TB drive in about 2 hours. ...

NordVPN also suggests setting IPv6 to "ignore" - I don't know why, but I did and it worked also.

Thank you.
That "slider' thing in the help threw me right off.
The word "tag" is no where to be seen.

[Solved] Where's the "Tags Panel" in Rednotebook

I've installed Rednotebook 2.5 and I'm browsing the help contents. Can't figure out the "tags" because I can't find the "tag panel" on the right, that is now hidden by default. "Drag the slider to the left to see it." the help says. Where's the slider? Even in full screen, or very small screen, no s...

"A" Solution to "The Alcohol Problem"

What? Another one? Yes. I have an idea; but I don't write "letters-to-the-editor", or write for a living, or blog, or even have a Facebook account. But, to me the idea is kind of a no-brainer, so I want to plant a seed and see what grows, or dies. First, my "solution" only applies to physical damage...

[SOLVED] Re: KDEConnect

Solved the issue with Pulse SMS

https://messenger.klinkerapps.com/overview/

It has a price, but lifetime $10.99 after a 7-day trial doesn't sound too bad.
So far, it's exactly what I was looking for in KDEConnect, and it works "out of the box."
