Re: DNS is working, but no internet

The WWW has been working out of the box (for about 4 months) until I changed the sub-net (from 10.106.x.x to 169.254.x.x) by just physically connecting to an other network branch (including domain name change) with an other DHCP server.
Very bad choice, change it to RFC1918 space.

Re: Do passwords expire?

I use KeepassXC to store passwords and copy from KeepassXC directly to the login
Do you mean highlight the password in KpXC, copy, paste into password field of forum?

Re: Samba shares over VPN

After you generated and copied the certs/keys and DH parameters, generate a tlscrypt.key: sudo openvpn --genkey --secret /etc/opevpn/certs/tlscrypt.key sudo chmod 0400 /etc/openvpn/certs/{ca.crt,server.crt,server.key,dh2048.pem,tlscrypt.key} Replace the file names between {} as generated by easyrsa....

Re: Samba shares over VPN

A little short on time right now ( but will help you ) but a good start would be here:
https://community.openvpn.net/openvpn/wiki/HOWTO
It's important to read it, especially since you will run your own server.

Re: Samba shares over VPN

Your welcome,

I would also advise to un-install the Windows Connect client (currently beta) and install the latest version 2.4.8 from here:
https://openvpn.net/community-downloads/

Later.

Re: Samba shares over VPN

Ok, I see you have installed the commercial OpenVPN Access Server which I have no experience with. You can try the OpenVPN forum here: https://forums.openvpn.net/viewforum.php?f=24 Place your post under configuration. Or un-install it and install the OpenVPN Community version, then I could be of mor...

Can you post:
1. server config
2. client config
From command line on server:
3.

Code: Select all

sudo cat /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_forward
4.

Code: Select all

sudo iptables -S
5.

Code: Select all

sudo iptables -t nat -S
Replace/remove private info like IP address/DDNS of server and inline keys.

pfSense would be a good candidate.
Self build or purchased from Netgate.

There is dire need for some kind of pruning routine aka garbage collector on the internet.
The internet would become a very small place ;)

Re: WireGuard VPN in Linux kernel

One cannot change WG crypto, what if that gets compromised?

The comparison with OpenVPN is flawed, OpenVPN is way, way more configurable (and Layer 2/3).

It will have/get a place though, it's just another added tool.
Personally, I don't like this competitive behaviour, talking other apps down...

Re: Thunderbird Mail: bad image quality in displayed attachments

Regarding checksum of the picture:

Code: Select all

This checksum is unique and can be used to verify that pic.png is original.

Re: Green and nuclear power

Traditional nuclear power is a dead end, in my opinion: the radioactive waste is dangerous for up to a million years, which is uncontrollably and irresponsibly long. It's plain crazy to assume that you can keep it stowed away safely for so long. With a bit of luck the SAFIRE project has found a pos...

"tin foil hat" crowd will never agree
Yeah, once one knows what's happening on a deeper network level one starts to understand.
It's this from previous thread:
