Re: Do you use Windows?

I'm giving some thought to taking classes this year and now I am wondering if I will need a copy of Windows depending on class requirements.

Re: Who no longer uses Windows?

I'm considering going back to school part time, and I'm afraid I'll be forced to use Windows depending on which classes I take.

Re: Who no longer uses Windows?

I took a linux course in 2010 at the local community college and was introduced to SuSe but kept Windows 7 on my PC and dual booted with SuSE but I didn't really like the inconvenience. An IT guy friend of the family told me about Ubuntu and free version VM so I went that route with Windows on a VM...

Who no longer uses Windows?

Back in late 2014 I finally ditched and completely quit using Windows due to Steam, Chrome/ and developers hard efforts to improve Linux. For me the Year of The Linux Desktop begin then. I can watch my movies and shows, and play my games without having to boot Windows. My games on my other SSD repla...

Re: Introducing Folks to Linux.

Then we agree. Personally I do show people Linux Mint if they're interested. And some of them have started using it since. One of them is my mother at the ripe age of 78! But you do need to be prepared to answer some extra questions over the first few weeks. After that, support is easier than it wo...

Re: Introducing Folks to Linux.

"Mint is better suited for folks new to Linux than other distros are " or "Mint is better suited for folks new to Linux than it is for more experienced users ". There's quite a difference and yet both of those might be expressed as "Mint might be better suited for folks new to Linux". And I would s...

Re: Introducing Folks to Linux.

Yeah most folks new to Linux do tend to treat it as another version of Windows. There is some truth to Windows power users having a real hard learning and using Linux.

Re: Introducing Folks to Linux.

I'm thinking that Mint might be better suited for folks new to Linux and/or computers(I know quite a few). I think that is an unfair assessment of Mint. Under the hood, Mint is just as complex as any other distro. That depends on whether the statement means "Mint is better suited for folks new to L...

Introducing Folks to Linux.

While I am posting this here, I'm not a newbie as I have been using Linux for a long time. I'm using Manjaro on my desktop. However I did Installed Mint to my Thinkpad T430 last night/early morning and after some trouble managed to setup my WiFi. I'm switching to Mint from Manjaro, but I'm thinking ...

Post it in the WiFi forums section and somebody will probably be able to help you.
Turns out I was putting in the wrong network name. I directly access the WiFi router and got the correct name.

Use the Update Manager. It's in the panel at the bottom of the screen, on the right hand side. If there are updates (and if you just installed, there certainly are), it will turn blue.
Thanks it turns out that I a problem with WiFi.

Re: Checking out Linux MInt.

Welcome aboard, whm1974! I agree, Mint is probably the best distro for introducing newcomers to Linux. And, it's the best distro for old-timers like myself who just want things to work and don't want to mess around with their OS all the time. Thanks for the welcome. I'm going to install it to my no...

Checking out Linux MInt.

Hello my fellow Linux users. I've had used Mint about four years ago or so, before switching to Xubuntu and then to my current distro Manjaro. I'm not switching back to Mint but I'm thinking of using it to introduce folks new to Linux due to Youtubers Switchtolinux and Joe Collins, who highly recomm...
