Re: How can an app be made to open and save to a particular folder

I created a test launcher to open gedit and set the working dir to my download folder, when I exe the launcher it opens gedit and from gedit when I select Open / other documents it defaults to download folder. When I save it it also defaults to download.

Re: How can an app be made to open and save to a particular folder

Would creating a Launcher to launch gedit and setting the working directory where you want it in the launcher do what you want?

Does it not show the size of the /boot ?
Yes, if boot is a separate partition.
That is why I stated what I did because I saw what his /boot size was before he deleted that post.

Re: Should I update to the 4.15 kernel?

He had posted the output of inxi -Fxz And now it's gone. It appeared he had more than one kernel installed.

Re: Should I update to the 4.15 kernel?

True, but wouldn't it be a good idea to know how to do one before getting into it in case it is the only PC you have and you lose Internet and then not be able to get help?

Re: Should I update to the 4.15 kernel?

Yes you should learn how to revert before attempting to update a kernel, I would attempt to explain how but may confuse you in the process. So someone with more experience at explaining to people like us with limited experience would be better suited to help you. It looks like you may have two kerne...

Re: Firefox V.S. Chrome

I've been with FF and t-bird since one of those first windows 3 /95 or so I can't remember, so it was easy dragging my mess over to Mint.
edit: Oops it was netscape back then I think ( Just read up on both Netscape and Firefox and was I way off on both. Oh well I'm old)

Re: Can't move folder

You really shouldn't manually install anything in root unless the installer itself does so, in which case it will prompt you for SU password to make sure you want to. When I extract a archived file I create a sub-folder in downloads and extract it to there. Did you try software manager to install Ja...

Re: China and need to buy new laptop. How to guess which one is Linux friendly?

I'm running two Dell laptops both on 18.3 XFCE and no problems. Both are AMD based and assembled in China which came with Windows 10 on them which I promptly tossed win10 in the trash. I recommend hard-wiring to the internet during installation and not wireless. What do you mean by "hard wiring to ...

Re: Using previous home partition after fresh install

Whenever I have re-installed the same Distro / DE During install setup I tell it to format / and /boot (/boot if you run separate partitions for each / & /boot) keep in mind you still have to tell setup what each partition is meaning /home is /home but don't format home if you wish to keep it. So if...

Re: Problem with Linuxmint kernel update

It is always a good Idea to at least keep the last Known working kernel while testing a newly installed Kernel in case something is not right with the new one. Good to have something to fall back on. I have needed it and will need one in the future I am sure.

Re: Problem with Linuxmint kernel update

I use update manager to remove older kernels. I hope that it is ok to do it that way.
