Re: Dual boot installation

I set Mint and Manjaro on the same disk with same user name different partitions, and still both run fine without conflicts. That is different from what we are discussing here. You have Mint and Majaro installed as 2 separate OS'es AND with a different /home directory each on a different partition....

Re: Dual boot installation

You are right. Especially .config directory of both can conflict. You can have separate user names in solus and mint so that there won't be any conflict. So, you confirm what Flemur says. And for my complete understanding: if in /home e.g. a library component is changed by Solus, it won't result in...

Re: Dual boot installation

You know what you would be writing, so will keep write in control. There won't be any simultaneous writes from both os, so it's going to be all right. I know what I would be writing in personal data files (xlsx, docx, pdf, etc.) but a /home directory contains other types of files as well, and it is...

Re: Dual boot installation

Thanks for your reply, Flemur. You could use the same partition but make a different username: then you'd have /home/user1 and /home/user2 ; both users should be ID 1000, so you'll be able to read/write each other's files (I think). But isn't the writing, i.e. altering, by the 2 OS'es of the other's...

Re: Dual boot installation

If you have an efi partition mount|grep efi that's where grub resides So that means that if I do a manual partitioning for Solus, I can use Mint's EFI partition, right? BTW, the output of mount|grep efi is: efivarfs on /sys/firmware/efi/efivars type efivarfs (rw,nosuid, nodev, noexec, relatime) /dev/n...

[CLOSED] Dual boot installation

I would like to install Solus as dual boot on my computer that currently has Mint installed. I do not have Windows installed anymore :-)) I would like to get some advice as to how to do this best. I have a 128 SSD and a 1 TB HDD. I have my root (/) on the SSD, as well as the /boot/efi partitions, I ...

@jelabarre59: just to confirm that this works in Mint 19.1 XFCE, and in Firefox 67.
Many thanks for this,

Re: Cannot install LM 19.1, blocked by AntiX

I would reinstall antiX and (manually) re-partition the drive in the process. I would split the partitions into two: #1 - antiX - 10 GB #2 - Linux Mint - the rest of the drive (approx 21 GB) I only need 1 OS. AntiX has been fine, except for an annoying scrolling issue while browsing that I can't ge...

Re: Cannot install LM 19.1, blocked by AntiX

Have you thought about booting the install media, clicing on menu - all and clicking on gparted and deleting the AntiX partition? That will give you the space needed to install Mint. Of course, make sure you've backed up whatever is important to you. Yes, I have tried that, but the problem is that ...

Re: Cannot install LM 19.1, blocked by AntiX

That's correct no less than 1GB RAM and 15GB of disk. Since you are running out of space on disk, that means you are installing "alongside" AntiX and not "over" Antix. I always use the "Something Else" install option, to ensure it sets up according to need and not according to defaults. Sure, but l...

Re: Cannot install LM 19.1, blocked by AntiX

Anti-X is a small distribution and apparently it is small enough to fit on the (apparently) 32GB drive. The drive really is 32 GB. Even if you dod overwrite Anti-X, there still would not be enough room for a usable Mint install on that drive. You're going to need a hardware upgrade. The recommended...

Re: Cannot install LM 19.1, blocked by AntiX

I just checked the specs on your machine and the smallest HD that was installed was 250GiB. https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/pd100796 Apparently, Windows is still on that HD. Not true. Even on the link you provided they show a 32 GB and 64 GB possibility. Furthermore, if you check the inx...

Re: Cannot install LM 19.1, blocked by AntiX

Based on the very small size of your drive (29.24 GiB), I don't know if even the lightest Mint version (XFCE) will work. SSD's are relatively inexpensive these days. I would suggest you replace your drive. Yes, I guess that is an option, provided they are available where I live. I am not technical ...

What software did you use to create the installer USB?
Etcher. And I used the same live USB stick to install LM 19 on my other laptop.

Cannot install LM 19.1, blocked by AntiX

For various reasons I want to install LM 19.1 on a hybrid laptop/tablet, on which I had installed AntiX and erased Windows. Regular booting ("Try LM without installing") from the live USB stick does not work: I get some text and numbers and the screen starts flashing, requiring a forced shutdown. I ...

There is a key next to the mute key on my keyboard, it has a microphone with cross bar. I must have pressed it accidentally, because pressing it now fixed my problem.

No period in front of the absolute path.

Code: Select all

sudo /etc/cron.weekly/fstrim
OK, here is the output:

Code: Select all

Lenovo-ideapad-330-17ICH:~$ sudo /etc/cron.weekly/fstrim

Re: Mulitmedia keyboard keys not working anymore

But I have not changed kernel prior to this happening. Try it anyway. I did, but the problem remains. On my laptop the F1 key = mutee/unmute, F2.= volume down, F3 = volume up. Up until a few days ago I could just press those keys, but I just found out that now I have to press the Fn key + Fx...
