Re: Bad Sectors on HDD??

If I were to back up the system using Timeshift and then decided to change out the Drive for an SSD, would I be able to restore the data saved on Timeshift onto the SSD or would I have to reinstall everything?

Linux Mint 18.3 "Sylvia"

Im not sure if this is where this post should go but I was wondering. When downloading LM 18.3 using the Torrent link given on the Linux Mint downloads page, it does not include the sha256sum.txt and sha256sum.txt.gpg verification files. Not sure if that has been done that way by design or if it is ...

Re: Backing up files

I ended up figuring out how to get it into read only and managed to get the files that I wanted to save. I ended up going into Mint Menu/Accessories/Discs (forum that helped me was https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=90&t=202246&p=1051285&hilit=mounting+hibernating+windows#p1051285 and foll...

[SOLVED] After Formatting

Okay. I went to discs to format a hard drive after getting certain files off of the HDD that I wanted to save. I clicked on Format disc, Overwrite existing data with zeros (slow), compatible with all systems and devices (MBR/DOS) and hit format. After confirming that I wish to format the hard drive ...

Re: Backing up files

Sadly I am not finding anything on the forums on how to put the HDD into read only mode to try to save some files from it before I wipe the drive clean :(

Edit: Figured out how to get it to read only...maybe I can figure out how to get the stuff I want to keep now

Deleting stuff from Downloads file

If I already have a program downloaded (such as chrome) and I delete the .deb file from downloads, will that prevent chrome (or other files that I have downloaded from a .deb file) to not receive any updates in the future?

Re: Linux Mint 18.3 Cinnamon

With me being so new to linux I cant really say yes or no in an honest way but from what I can tell...the only thing that is making it run slowly would be my internet connection (I have been using mobile hotspot tethering using Verizon's (minimum) unlimited plan since that is the only reliable sourc...
