I use Express VPN (Paid subscription) It's setup on my router so both wired and wifi connections are protected. It is also on my mobile devices for use when I'm travelling.

Re: Spectre and Meltdown: Next Generation

So what is this processor microcode? I notice that I have a driver available in Driver Manager:

Intel-Microcode (open-source)
Version 3.20180425.1~ubuntu0.16.04.1

Should I install this as my system seems to chirping along just fine.
How can I check which version I have installed.

Re: Linux Mint 19 codenamed “Tara”

Being new to Mint I was just wondering if Mint 18.3 will be updated to Mint 19 through Update Manager or will Mint 19 require a fresh download and install, or could an 18.3 system be upgraded to 19 through the CLI using sudo apt-get etc, etc. There'll probably be an upgrade option in Update Manager...

Re: How do you correct Kernel Install issues

As with most distros, in order to increase complexity, Mint stupidly hides Grub and Advanced Options at boot now. In order to make Grub visible at boot and make the change permanent you could edit your /etc/default/grub file by running sudo xed /etc/default/grub and putting a # before GRUB_HIDDEN_T...

Re: How do you correct Kernel Install issues

Wow! Thanks for all the great tips and advice. I feel a lot better now as I'm really liking the way that Mint is running and would hate to mess it up and have to start over. I have Timeshift installed and use it for daily backups and I'll save this thread for reference.

Thanks again everyone.

How do you correct Kernel Install issues [Solved]

As a novice when it comes to Linux, it occurs to me that I should know how to correct any issues created with Kernel installations. I presently have 4.13.0-39 active (Working perfectly on my MacMini) and 4.13.0-38 installed. I noticed that 4.15 versions are available, but noticed in two threads: htt...

Re: Which Firewall do you use ?

I use a Firewall that's installed on my Synology RT2600ac router. It's System wide covers both HTTP and HTTPS. I also have "Express VPN" installed on the router. Works very well and I'm pleased with it's performance. Like majpooper I only install apps from the Mint repositories. I also use "Dashlane...

Re: Kodi 17.6 issues on Linux Cinnamon 18.2 64 bit

I had the same issues and found this solution in the forums that solved my problems:

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install software-properties-common
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:team-xbmc/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install kodi
It might work for you as well.

Re: gnome-keyring-daemon not responding

I recall having this "gnome-keyring-daemon not responding" issue myself when I was dual-booting MacOS and Mint. I've since deleted MacOS and single boot Mint 18.3 Cinnamon. On reading this thread it occurs to me that since deleting MacOS, this "gnome-keyring-daemon not responding" no longer crops up...

Re: Boot Live on IMAC

So how do I get IMAC #1 to boot to live DVD? I put 32bit live Mint DVD in the drive and turned the machine on but it just boots to Apple. No boot options come up when the computer is turned on. Are there special key combinations that need to be done after pressing the power button? How do I get #2 ...

Finally did it - Sorry macOS

I had been dual booting macOS and Mint on my mid 2011 MacMin for about a month nowi. I've been so pleased with Mint that I started looking around for another system to install Mint onto. Unfortunately costs got in the way for a system with the specs that I wanted, so I decided to trash the dual boot...

Re: Because of the Facebook data scandal, should Linux Mint delete its Facebook page?

FaceBook is not free to use. Those who create a FB account pay for that account with their private data, their surfing habits and their likes, to mention a few. Parties interested in this data accumulated by FB can pay FB to access it and use it as they see fit as long as the interested party abides...

Screen Saver Resets Sound Settings

Not a big issue. I have my sound output set to "HDMI/DisplayPort3 - Built-in-Audio", which is my TV. It works great in all apps without any issues. The one hiccup I've noticed is that whenever I return to the desktop from the ScreenSaver the audio is set back to "Speakers/Built-in Audio", which is m...
